Coinbase Expands Roadmap With QCAD, Monad, and Aster, DEX Landscape Heats Up

2025/11/09 11:32

Coinbase is broadening its asset pipeline again. The exchange announced that QCAD ($QCAD), Monad ($MON), and Aster ($ASTER) have been added to its official roadmap, a move signaling its continued expansion into new blockchain ecosystems and next-generation trading protocols.

The additions mark a fresh wave of interest in projects that combine infrastructure scalability, localized stablecoins, and innovative DEX architecture. Coinbase’s roadmap update hints that listings or integrations could follow soon, as the exchange continues to diversify its offerings beyond mainstream tokens.

QCAD: Bringing the Canadian Dollar to the Blockchain

Leading the trio is QCAD, a Canadian dollar–backed stablecoin issued by Stablecorp Inc.

The project aims to digitize the Canadian dollar, enabling frictionless transfers and on-chain settlements for users and institutions within Canada’s financial ecosystem.

Unlike other USD-denominated stablecoins that dominate global trading, QCAD is built for a regional market, designed to serve cross-border remittances, merchant payments, and DeFi integrations anchored to CAD value.

Stablecorp, the issuer, has been positioning QCAD as a compliance-first, transparent digital asset. By leveraging audited reserves and established financial partnerships, QCAD bridges the gap between traditional finance and on-chain liquidity.

Its inclusion on Coinbase’s roadmap signals growing recognition of non-USD stablecoins as viable liquidity instruments in DeFi.

Monad: A High-Performance EVM Layer 1

Next up is Monad ($MON), a new Layer 1 blockchain built for speed, compatibility, and capital efficiency.

Monad aims to provide Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility while dramatically improving throughput and latency. Its architecture blends parallel execution with deterministic finality, allowing developers to migrate existing Ethereum dApps without rewriting code, but with far greater performance.

The protocol positions itself as a next-generation infrastructure layer, combining Ethereum’s proven development standards with optimizations inspired by modern high-performance systems.

Industry observers view Monad’s inclusion on Coinbase’s roadmap as a sign of growing institutional curiosity around alternative EVM-compatible chains. With Ethereum layer-2s facing congestion and high bridging costs, new L1 contenders like Monad are pitching simpler, unified scaling paths.

If listed, $MON could become one of the few early-stage infrastructure tokens with direct exposure to Coinbase’s retail and institutional user base, a major visibility boost ahead of mainnet deployment.

Aster: The Rising DEX Challenger

Coinbase’s roadmap also features Aster ($ASTER), the native token of Aster DEX, a next-generation decentralized exchange platform gaining traction in the derivatives market.

Aster offers spot and perpetual trading with deep liquidity, tight spreads, and an expanding user base. Its model focuses on fee optimization and incentive alignment, areas where centralized exchanges have traditionally outperformed DEXs.

The timing of Aster’s inclusion is notable. The DEX sector is heating up fast, with established platforms like Hyperliquid starting to lose ground.

According to recent market data, Hyperliquid’s market share has fallen from over 70% to just above 30%, as new entrants such as Lighter and Aster gain speed. Many of these newer protocols are leveraging faster engines, better fee models, and community-driven incentives, creating a wave of competition across on-chain derivatives markets.

Aster’s strong performance and ecosystem growth likely caught Coinbase’s attention, positioning it as one of the more promising DEX tokens to watch heading into 2026.

Shifting DEX Market Dynamics

Hyperliquid still leads in on-chain trading volume, but the shift in dominance highlights an evolving landscape.

As newer players like Aster and Lighter bring improved fee structures and user incentives, traders are migrating toward platforms offering real-yield mechanisms and transparent liquidity pools.

This competitive dynamic is pushing DEX innovation beyond traditional AMM models. Advanced order books, perpetual markets, and optimized gas handling are now baseline expectations.

Aster’s ability to climb into the top ranks of DEXs underscores this shift, traders are valuing execution efficiency and ecosystem participation more than legacy brand familiarity.

Coinbase’s Expanding Focus

The addition of QCAD, Monad, and Aster reflects Coinbase’s evolving listing strategy. The exchange continues to expand beyond established layer-1 tokens, exploring infrastructure, localized stablecoins, and emerging DEX ecosystems.

For Coinbase, the roadmap process allows early engagement with projects that have high technical merit or strong community traction, without immediate listing commitments. But historically, roadmap inclusion often precedes a full listing, suggesting that all three tokens could debut on the exchange in the coming months.

If so, this would mark another round of diversification within Coinbase’s global portfolio, connecting traditional finance, infrastructure scalability, and DeFi liquidity under one umbrella.

As 2025 heads into its final quarter, Coinbase’s latest roadmap update underscores how quickly the crypto market is evolving.

Stablecoins are becoming more regional and regulated. Layer-1s are being reimagined for performance. DEXs are racing to out-engineer each other.

QCAD, Monad, and Aster each represent a different pillar of that transformation, fiat-on-chain liquidity, high-throughput infrastructure, and decentralized trading.

Coinbase’s recognition of these themes signals where institutional and retail attention may shift next: toward assets that blend utility, speed, and economic realism over pure speculation.

The roadmap additions are more than token news, they’re a snapshot of where crypto is heading:

localized finance, scalable infrastructure, and smarter decentralized market.

Fintech 19 September 2025 | 16:03 Event-based trading platforms are no longer niche experiments – they’re emerging as a major arena where finance, crypto, and information converge. After months of subdued activity, volumes are climbing again, and U.S.-regulated Kalshi has unexpectedly taken the lead. Betting on Everything From Rates to Sports Analysts at Bernstein describe prediction markets as a new “interface for information,” where users speculate not only on sports results but also on Federal Reserve decisions, quarterly earnings, and even crypto price moves. This year alone, more than $200 million changed hands on Polymarket contracts linked to the Fed’s recent 25 bps rate cut, while $85 million traded on Kalshi around the same decision. Mainstream brokers like Coinbase and Robinhood are watching closely, with ambitions to capture some of the momentum. With U.S. sports betting already worth tens of billions annually, the overlap is too big to ignore. Against that backdrop, Kalshi has delivered one of its strongest months since the 2024 elections. The platform reports $1.3 billion in trading volume so far in September, accounting for 62% of global prediction market activity. Just a year ago, Kalshi’s share stood at 3%. CEO Tarek Mansour called the growth “remarkable,” noting that the exchange still serves only U.S. clients. Polymarket’s Pushback Its main rival, Polymarket, has logged about $773 million in trades this month. While that trails Kalshi for now, Polymarket has unique advantages: as a crypto-native platform, it has carved out strong global demand and is working toward a formal U.S. relaunch via its acquisition of derivatives exchange QCEX. The two platforms now stand as the clear leaders of the sector, though they embody different philosophies — one regulated from the ground up, the other built around decentralization.
