AEW Full Gear 2025 was shaping up to be a throwaway show, but it will be newsworthy with two new champions crowned. There are multiple massive favorites on this card, including FTR (-1500) and Hangman Adam Page (-5000). AEW Dynamite has suffered in the Big Data Era, drawing less than 500,000 viewers in four of the last five weeks. The only exception was last week’s special Blood and Guts show, which popped 600,000 viewers for the TV PPV before AEW regressed back under 500,000 with 491,000 viewers for the November 19 Dynamite.
Ricochet lost a one-sided match to Bobby Lashley on Dynamite, suggesting he is in line to win his first AEW championship two years after his signing. This means AEW’s first National champion will be a wrestler who has lost several times on free TV because modern pro wrestling has been saddled with the curse of 50/50 booking.
The only match where Mercedes has suffered a pinfall loss in AEW was when she competed for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear Texas against Toni Storm. Now Mercedes 13 Belts, the history making TBS champion will challenge for the AEW Women’s World Title for a second time against Kris Statlander. Mone is an underdog, which could play into a long-term storyline of Mercedes being able to win every title except the AEW Women’s World Championship, generally considered AEW’s top women’s title. Hangman Adam Page and Samoa Joe had an amazing angle to start their rematch storyline. But nobody in the Tristate Area believes for a single solitary second that Samoa Joe has a chance to dethrone Hangman.
Between Nielsen’s faulty Big Data ratings and the impending sale of WBD, AEW’s future as a television product is as cloudy as it’s ever been. AEW almost never misses on pay-per-view in terms of quality, and despite another strong card on paper, nothing seems overly consequential on this show. By night’s end, there will be two new champions in a promotion with too many champions, and the main event is statistically one of the most predictable outcomes of 2025. I expect AEW Full Gear to draw less than typical AEW pay-per-views with less than 100,000 buys.
