Los precios del petróleo subieron el miércoles sostenidos por la demanda en Estados Unidos, en un mercado atento a las negociaciones para terminar la guerra en Ucrania, un desarrollo que podría aumentar el crudo disponible y presionaría los precios a la baja.

El precio del barril de Brent del Mar del Norte para entrega en enero ganó un 1,04% a 63,13 dólares.

Su equivalente estadounidense, el barril de West Texas Intermediate (WTI) para entrega en el mismo mes subió un 1.21% hasta 58.65 dólares.

"El mercado observa muy atentamente la evolución de la situación respecto al potencial acuerdo de paz entre Rusia y Ucrania", explicó a AFP Phil Flynn, de The Price Futures Group.

La capacidad de exportación de Rusia resulta determinante para el precio del petróleo, ya que es el tercer productor detrás de Estados Unidos y Arabia Saudita.

"Un alto el fuego podría aumentar la oferta de crudo en el mercado", dijo Flynn, lo que ejercería presión a la baja sobre los precios del petróleo.

Las sanciones contra el sector petrolero ruso, incluidas las de Washington contra Lukoil y Rosneft, dos gigantes de los hidrocarburos, podrían levantarse.

A la espera de "progresos" concretos en el ámbito geopolítico, los precios se sostuvieron el miércoles por el informe semanal de la Agencia de Información de Energía de Estados Unidos (EIA), dijo Phil Flynn.

El informe de reservas mostró un aumento inesperado en los inventarios comerciales de petróleo crudo en Estados Unidos, lo que en teoría podría afectar negativamente los precios.

Pero, según Flynn, "la demanda sigue siendo sólida". La cantidad de productos derivados entregados al mercado estadounidense aumentó ligeramente respecto a la semana pasada (+0,41%).

Este aumento se debe principalmente a la categoría "gasolina" (+2.32%).
