Miley Cyrus debuted her engagement ring from Maxx Morando last night at the premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash, in strapless black Gucci, with a dramatic train and a radiant smile. Designed by Jacquie Aiche, the diamond solitaire seems to be the continuation of a trend for bold, unconventional engagement rings from celebrity couples, after Dua Lipa revealed a similarly chunky gold and bezel-set diamond ring in late 2024.

Although Aiche and her team are remaining silent on the exact details of Cyrus’s ring, we know the stone is a responsibly sourced, elongated cushion-cut diamond, flush-set into a generously proportioned 14kt gold band. Thicker, heavier bands and flush settings provide greater security for larger stones than traditional claw settings—this one is estimated to be 2 to 3 carats, according to an expert source—and the slightly bombé, or domed shape, adds presence and weight.
How Celebrity Engagement Rings Move The Needle
It’s been a strong year for celebrity engagements, and cushion-cut diamonds have been especially hot. Zendaya went for a cushion-cut button-backed diamond solitaire by Jessica McCormack for her engagement to Tom Holland in January, and in August Taylor Swift revealed an old mine diamond solitaire that’s thought to be 8 to 10 carats, from fiancé Travis Kelce. Celebrity engagement can be lucrative endorsement for a jewelry brand; Swift’s ring designer, Kindred Lubeck of New York-based independent fine jewelry house Artifex, went on to design a limited-edition capsule collection with Sotheby’s in November, which featured old mine (antique) gemstones and her signature hand-engraved detail.
