Miley Cyrus became a global musical superstar long before critics caught on to her talent. She spent many years churning out hits, first as Hannah Montana and then under her own name, but it took quite a while before she scored her first major award nominations, and even longer until she finally claimed some hardware.

In the past several years, critics and a number of major institutions in the entertainment industry have finally recognized Cyrus’s abilities as a musician and songwriter, as she scored her first Grammys for her single “Flowers” only a short time ago. There is one honor that has eluded the singer thus far — one she has been angling to receive and recently took one step toward finally achieving.

Miley Cyrus Scores a Golden Globe Nomination

Cyrus scored a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Original Song category for the upcoming ceremony. Her name was one of several listed on Monday (December 8) when the potential winners for the upcoming eight-third annual Golden Globes were revealed. Cyrus is up for Best Original Song for co-writing “Dream as One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash. She is credited on the track alongside Andrew Wyatt, Mark Ronson, and Simon Franglen.

Miley Cyrus Earns a Third Golden Globe Nod

Cyrus has now been nominated for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes three times, but she has yet to win the trophy. The star was first up for the honor back in 2008, when “I Thought I Lost You” from the animated film Bolt – which Cyrus also lent her fame and vocal talents to – lost out to “The Wrestler” by Bruce Springsteen.

At the 2024 ceremony, “Beautiful That Way,” written by Cyrus, Wyatt, and Lykke Li, was nominated, bringing the Pamela Anderson–led The Last Showgirl into another category. The prize went to “El Mal,” one of two nominated cuts from Emilia Perez.

Will Miley Cyrus Finally Nab an Academy Award Nomination?

Earning a nomination for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes is usually considered a stepping stone to an Academy Award nod in the same field. While the Golden Globes are cited as one of the biggest prizes in entertainment and specifically the film industry, nothing beats the Oscars. While Cyrus has scored three Best Original Song nominations at the Golden Globes, she has yet to claim an Academy Award nomination, something that she is clearly interested in. Now that “Dream as One” is in the running, Cyrus has a strong – but far from certain – chance of finally securing a much-coveted spot in the competitive field.

Miley Cyrus Has Worked on Films Like Charlie’s Angels and The Last Song

Throughout the years, Cyrus has worked on a number of tracks created specifically for movies, although she was not credited as a songwriter on all of them, which is key to earning both Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. In addition to Bolt, The Last Showgirl, and the third installment in the Avatar franchise, Cyrus has also recorded songs for film projects like Charlie’s Angels, Freeheld, The Last Song, and multiple Hannah Montana–related releases.

What Tracks Are Nominated for the Best Original Song Golden Globe?

The Best Original Song field at the 2026 Golden Globes is busier than usual, as half a dozen tunes earned nominations. Cyrus is up against all of the following tracks:

  • “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters
  • “I Lied to You” from Sinners
  • “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble” from Wicked: For Good
  • “Train Dreams” from Train Dreams

The winners will be announced during the live telecast set to air on CBS on January 11, 2026.

When Does Avatar: Fire and Ash Hit Theaters?

While Cyrus and company have already earned a Golden Globe nod for Avatar: Fire and Ash – which is up for several prizes – the film has yet to be released. The third Avatar movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 19, though “Dream as One” was unleashed in mid-November.
