A calendar is inherently functional. That is, a measurement of time laid out to be a fixture in Filipino homes and a marker of the passage of days for ordinary laborers and homemakers. Over time, it has pervaded not just homes and offices but also other spaces in the community, like your go-to sari-sari store or that trusty barbershop around the corner.

Ginebra San Miguel (GSM) has built a lasting reputation for producing calendars that capture attention and spark conversation annually. Because of its commitment to be the companion to every kabarangay, it harnessed the values of strength, endurance, and excellence to be more than just a drink. Ginebra, by its name, brings to mind a beloved basketball team, a nostalgic folk song, a national artist, and the annually anticipated wall calendar.

In the past 37 years, since it first launched, some of the prettiest, fiercest, and most successful women have graced the Ginebra San Miguel calendar.

For 2026, the brand is paying homage to the streets where generations of Filipinos were raised to hustle and create avenues for self-expression by naming actress and performer Sue Ramirez as its 2026 Calendar Girl.

Her most authentic self

To be the calendar girl requires a number of qualities, among them being in good shape, charisma that draws clamor, and grit for the unexpected.

Sue’s turn as the calendar girl is built on the strong foundation of her six-year endorsement of GSM Blue. From being the katropa who chooses what’s true, her latest feat widens her range. As the calendar girl, she is not assuming a character in a teleserye or a rom-com; she is her most authentic self: the Street Siren.

Sue said what she valued most was being herself—no roles, no pretenses—throughout the photoshoot. It gave people the chance to see her simply as Sue, just as she is.

Living by tapang

Now crowned as the muse for the ordinary, everyday people, Sue brings her extraordinary confidence to the calendar. After nearly 50 films and TV series, she accepts her responsibilities to carry the whole brand for the new generation of kabarangays.

For Sue, being called a siren symbolizes owning her power, voice, and story. She said that this recognition is a badge of honor. When asked about her outlook on life and how she overcomes challenges, she emphasized the importance of self-belief and living with tapang, a fearless determination that drives her to do what needs to be done.

It’s Sue’s turn

Because of the rich tradition of Ginebra San Miguel’s calendar, each face it has featured has established themselves as a cultural icon. From beauty queens to celebrities, Sue joins the roster of remarkable women, and she celebrated this with a launch party at the Diamond Hotel Manila on November 26.

Among the women in Ginebra San Miguel’s calendar girl history are Marian Rivera (2009, 2014), Anne Curtis (2011), Solenn Heussaff (2012), Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach (2019), and Julie Anne San Jose (2025), each one leaving their own unique mark on the tradition. In truth, their iterations are etched in the collective memory of those who frequent neighborhood establishments and catch the poster calendar on its walls.

Bringing her Sue-per energy into the new year, Sue promises to be stronger and more fearless, reflecting the many facets of the modern Filipina and the never-say-die spirit of Ginebra San Miguel.

Calling her achievement an answered prayer, Sue believes now more than ever that dreams are always within reach. Grateful to her supporters, she expressed hope that the calendar’s fearless concept would inspire others, especially women, to pursue their goals. For her, years of hard work and personal growth led to this milestone, and she believes others can achieve their own dreams with the same determination.

The 2026 Ginebra San Miguel calendar is available in six layouts featuring Sporty Siren, Nightlife Siren, Barber’s Siren, Bao-Bao Siren, Beach Siren, and Street Siren. – Rappler.com
