PANews reported on January 10th that, according to Zhitong Finance, Indonesian authorities temporarily banned Elon Musk's Grok chatbot on Saturday due to concerns that it might generate pornographic content. This makes Indonesia the first country to ban such an AI tool. This move comes after governments and regulatory bodies across Europe and Asia have condemned the app's pornographic content, and some agencies have launched investigations.
Indonesian Communications and Digital Minister Mutia Hafeed stated in a statement, "The government believes that involuntary deepfakes without consent constitute a serious violation of human rights, civil dignity, and the safety of citizens in the digital space." The ministry also summoned executives from Company X to discuss the matter.
