Benefiting from a robust financial market, overall revenue, including stamp duty, has increased, allowing the Hong Kong SAR government to return to a surplus in its operating accounts ahead of schedule. However, with increased investment in public works projects, the capital account will still record a deficit this year. Chan previously responded to suggestions regarding a gold-linked stablecoin, stating that stablecoins will be developed gradually, and after completing the first step, suggestions to link to gold or other assets will be considered, emphasizing the need for careful handling.
