LIST: 28 free online courses at UP Open University

MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is offering 28 online courses for free from January to June this year.

The Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) are “non-degree online courses designed to provide flexible, high-quality education to a global audience.”

The self-paced lessons are taken up on the UPOU Massive Open Distance eLearning (MODeL) platform.

“Learn anywhere, anytime, and earn 16-hour e-certificates for your resume,” the UPOU posted on social media.

Here is the schedule of the courses, four of which are newly offered:

January

• Basics of Resilience
• Hazard and Risk Assessment Fundamentals

February

• Practical Home Behavior Management for Children with Special Needs (new)
• Data Annotation for Aspiring BPO (business process outsourcing) Professionals (new)
• Climate Information Services (new)
• Intercultural Communication Japan I: A Digitally Enhanced Approach

March

• Introduction to Technology for Teaching and Learning
• Introduction to Open Distance eLearning
• Risk Analysis for Project Management
• Introduction to Mainstreaming Biodiversity in Agriculture in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Region
• Strategies and Best Practices on Mainstreaming Biodiversity in Agriculture
• Policy Development and Governance Supporting Biodiversity in Agriculture
• Identifying the Red Flags of Developmental Delays
• Understanding the Child Better

April

Those interested to take up the classes may enroll through the MODeL platform at model.upou.edu.ph.

“Enrollment is only open two weeks before the course officially begins and remains available while the course is ongoing,” the UPOU said.

There will also be MOOCs from July to December but UPOU has yet to release the list of courses and schedules. – Rappler.com
