[BEHIND THE GOOD] Meet Reyna Valmores-Salinas of Bahaghari

When you spot Reyna in a crowd–whether at Pride March or demonstrations on streets–it’s impossible not to notice. Dolled up, in heels, and with eyebrows on fleek, she’s the face and voice of Bahaghari, an LGBTQIA+-led community. Behind the confidence and conviction to fight for her advocacy is a woman who has also carried years of struggle and resilience. 

Her journey began long before leading and holding the lines of Bahaghari. When she was young, she witnessed an act of violence against women in her own family–an experience that awakened her sense of injustice and discrimination, which fueled her determination to speak out even louder. 

Today, Reyna has helped organize rallies, campaigns, and community work through Bahaghari, spreading awareness and solidarity even to communities that are still learning how to embrace and respect diversity. 

She has stood at the forefront of advancing the SOGIE bill in Congress and challenged lawmakers determined to stall progress and silence the debate.

Despite the setbacks, Reyna continues the fight – leading the push to build safe spaces for future generations of the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community.
