'Playing with fire!' Trump hurls all-caps threat at Minneapolis mayor for resisting demand

President Donald Trump threatened to escalate the immigration surge in Minneapolis over the mayor's comments to his border czar Tom Homan.

The president dispatched Homan to the city following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti by immigration officers, but Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey reinforced that Minneapolis would not change its sanctuary policies as demanded by Trump administration officials.

“I shared with Mr. Homan the serious negative impacts this operation has had on Minneapolis and surrounding communities, as well as the strain it has placed on our local police officers,” Frey posted Tuesday afternoon on X. “I also made it clear that Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws, and that we will remain focused on keeping our neighbors and streets safe."

Homan, Attorney General Pam Bondi and other administration officials have urged local officials to help Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detain undocumented migrants in exchange for the departure of federal agents in the area, and the president raged at Frey's statement Wednesday morning in a social media post of his own.

"Surprisingly, Mayor Jacob Frey just stated that, 'Minneapolis does not, and will not, enforce Federal Immigration Laws,'" Trump posted on Truth Social. "This is after having had a very good conversation with him. Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!"
