X Smart Cashtags to launch in weeks amid SEC/CFTC scope

X, owned by elon musk, is preparing to let users trade stocks and cryptocurrencies directly from posts using Smart Cashtags within weeks, as reported by CoinDesk. Users will be able to interact with ticker symbols in posts to initiate trades. Smart Cashtags embed market access inside the conversation stream.

The feature links cashtags and stock symbols to a transaction flow, reducing steps between discovery, research, and execution. Details about supported assets, partners, and fees remain undisclosed.

For users, in‑timeline execution reduces friction and could elevate time spent engaging with markets, according to Yahoo Finance. Creators and companies may also see higher interaction when verified tickers appear in posts.

“We are launching a number of features in a couple of weeks, including Smart Cashtags that will enable you to trade stocks and crypto directly from the timeline,” said Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X. The statement aligns with X’s push to integrate finance into the social feed.

The Block reports that X also plans measures to curb spam posts and apps, a recurring problem for crypto conversations. Without robust controls and clear asset labeling, impulse trades and manipulation risks could rise.

Launch timing, access, and early experience on X

Product leadership has signaled a launch in the next couple of weeks. X has not specified which regions or user cohorts will participate first.

Early use is expected to center on interacting with cashtags and ticker symbols in posts to open a trading flow. Whether execution occurs via X’s own licenses or through partners has not been announced.

At the time of this writing, the data show Dogecoin (DOGE) around $0.1128 with neutral RSI of 38.63 and very high volatility of 13.72%. Such conditions underscore why in‑feed trading demands sober risk disclosures.

Regulatory and compliance overview: SEC and CFTC

How SEC and CFTC oversight may apply on X

In the U.S., stock trading implicates Securities and Exchange Commission rules for broker‑dealers and securities venues. Crypto spot assets may be treated as securities in some cases, while commodity derivatives fall under Commodity Futures Trading Commission oversight.

Licensing, KYC/AML, and anti-spam measures mentioned by X

Any live trading flow would typically require licensed brokers or exchanges to perform KYC/AML and sanction screening, with transaction monitoring and recordkeeping. Separately, X has said it will restrict apps that incentivize spam or harassment, including fee‑pool schemes, as reported by Stocktwits.

When will trading via Smart Cashtags launch and who will have access at rollout?

X product leadership targets a launch in a couple of weeks. Access details, regions, and eligibility at rollout have not been disclosed.

Will X act as the broker/custodian or route orders through partner brokers and exchanges?

Not disclosed. Reporting confirms in‑timeline trading via Smart Cashtags, but execution, custody, and order‑routing arrangements have not been announced.

UK FCA Plans to Waive Some Rules for Crypto Companies: FT

The post UK FCA Plans to Waive Some Rules for Crypto Companies: FT appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. The U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has plans to waive some of its rules for cryptocurrency companies, according to a Financial Times (FT) report on Wednesday. However, in another areas the FCA intends to tighten the rules where they pertain to industry-specific risks, such as cyber attacks. The financial watchdog wishes to adapt its existing rules for financial service companies to the unique nature of cryptoassets, the FT reported, citing a consultation paper published Wednesday. “You have to recognize that some of these things are very different,” David Geale, the FCA’s executive director for payments and digital finance, said in an interview, according to the report, adding that a “lift and drop” of existing traditional finance rules would not be effective with crypto. One such area that may be handled differently is the stipulation that a firm “must conduct its business with integrity” and “pay due regard to the interest of its customers and treat them fairly.” Crypto companies would be given less strict requirements than banks or investment platforms on rules concerning senior managers, systems and controls, as cryptocurrency firms “do not typically pose the same level of systemic risk,” the FCA said. Firms would also not have to offer customers a cooling off period due to the voltatile nature of crypto prices, nor would technology be classed as an outsourcing arrangement requiring extra risk management. This is because blockchain technology is often permissionless, meaning anyone can participate without the input of an intermediary. Other areas of crypto regulation remain undecided. The FCA has plans to fully integrate cryptocurrency into its regulatory framework from 2026.
