Binance Partners Crush Cyber Scams Across 19 Countries

Binance and global partners arrested 1,209 suspects and recovered $97M through four cross-border operations targeting cybercrime networks in Africa.

Binance just revealed something massive. The exchange helped dismantle cybercrime operations spanning 19 African countries. Four takedowns happened. 1,209 people got arrested.

According to Binance on X, this shows how public-private cooperation actually works. The post talked about structured collaboration, identifying criminal infrastructure. Real operations followed.

$97 million was recovered. But that’s not all of it. Criminal operations worth $678 million got stopped cold. More than 120,000 victims were found during the sweep.

INTERPOL ran two campaigns called Serengeti. The African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation helped coordinate everything. Mining equipment got seized. Crypto wallets were tracked down. Even power generators were confiscated.

The whole thing runs through something called Cybercrime Atlas. The World Economic Forum’s Partnership Against Cybercrime began in 2023. Binance joined right at the beginning.

Partners dropped 13 intelligence packages by October 2025. Over 17,000 data points got vetted by the community. This powered the cross-border campaigns.

Neal Jetton runs INTERPOL’s Cybercrime unit. He called the initiative a “force multiplier against cybercrime.” Intelligence turned into arrests this time.

Over 30 organizations work together now. Microsoft’s in. So are Fortinet, Mastercard, PayPal, and Group-IB. INTERPOL and Europol bring the law enforcement muscle. They share open-source intelligence without running into privacy problems.

A Research and Mapping Group kicked off in 2025. Banco Santander, Group-IB, Binance, and Orange Cyberdefense started it. Mastercard came later. Recorded Future joined too. SpyCloud and TNO got added after that.

Training Goes Global

They look for what they call “choke points.” Critical spots where hitting them hard does the most damage long-term.

The 2025 Impact Report breaks down how research became actual busts. Each of those 13 intelligence packages helped law enforcement act or shape policy.

Training happened in over 40 countries. INTERPOL’s Cybercrime team worked with Europol’s EC3 on it. Cybercrime commanders got trained. Prosecutors learned the methods. Policymakers sat in sessions, too.

Operation Secure ran in Bangkok during February 2025. The 10th Americas Working Group on Cybercrime met in Panama that April. Law enforcement learned to use private-sector intel in real time. The Western Balkans got workshops in Montenegro.

Binance’s security teams mapped criminal networks. They used OSINT tools for it. Link analysis went into the intelligence packages. Attribution insights helped, too. The data-powered Serengeti 2.0.

Erin Fracolli heads up Binance’s Global Intelligence and Investigations. “Partnerships like the Cybercrime Atlas are critical to securing the digital-asset space,” she said. Binance sees this as part of their work against cybercrime.

Technical help came from Epieos, Kasm Technologies, Maltego, ShadowDragon, Silent Push, and SpyCloud. These tools made data gathering faster. Threat correlation got easier.

Human Trafficking Links Exposed

Researchers can now connect dots that seemed unrelated. Compromised domains link to social accounts. Payment channels map back to the criminals running things.

STOP THE TRAFFIK partnered with Cybercrime Atlas recently. Human trafficking data got integrated with cybercrime analysis. Turns out “cyber-scam farms” use forced labor for online fraud. This was the first time an NGO outside the core network joined formally.

The initiative proves collective intelligence works. Open-source methods combined with trust between sectors can actually weaken cybercrime. That happened during 2024 and 2025.

For Binance, protecting crypto means working with others. Finance companies, cybersecurity firms, and law enforcement all need to cooperate. The exchange keeps helping build global frameworks that make the space safer.

The next phase runs through 2027. The global footprint expands. More diverse research gets added. New tools will help keep disruption efforts going at scale.
