MANILA, Philippines – Former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte faces charges of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, the Netherlands, where he has been detained since his arrest in Manila in March 2025.

The charges stem from alleged killings carried out by the Davao Death Squad when he was the city’s mayor and the killings connected to his national war on drugs when he became president. The hearings are scheduled for four days — February 23, 24, 26, and 27 — from 5 pm to 10 pm Manila time each hearing day.

Rappler’s Lian Buan is on the ground in the Netherlands, bringing you a front-row seat at the court room as the historic event happens. Rappler correspondent Michelle Abad also reports on activities outside the court and detention center, as groups critical or supportive of Duterte gather.
