The same AI-powered, trust-based driver engagement that transformed safety now unlocks fuel savings
SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Netradyne®, a global leader in AI-powered fleet safety and performance solutions, today announced the launch of Fuel Scoring and Coaching, new capabilities that extend its proven, AI-powered recognition-based approach to fuel efficiency.
As fuel costs remain among the highest operational expenses for commercial fleets, operators know fuel waste is a problem but often lack the visibility and engagement tools to drive behavior change at scale. Without clear benchmarking to measure and compare driver performance, streamlined coaching to guide improvement, or recognition systems to reward efficient driving, fleets lack the tools to turn awareness into action.
Most fuel management solutions focus on metrics like MPG without the context needed for actionable improvement, leaving fleet managers with data but no insights for meaningful change. Context, like driving patterns and conditions, is essential to trust the insights that lead to meaningful action.
The connection between safer driving and fuel efficiency
Netradyne data reveals a strong correlation between safe driving behaviors and fuel efficiency—a 10-point increase in GreenZone® score correlated to ~5-6% better fuel efficiency for a fleet that recently deployed Netradyne’s Driver·i® system. The same behaviors that reduce risk—smooth acceleration, controlled speed, proper following distance—directly improve MPG.
“We’re applying the same context-rich benchmarks and recognition-based philosophy that transformed fleet safety to fuel efficiency,” said Avneesh Agrawal, CEO and co-founder of Netradyne. “When drivers understand their performance, compare against peers, and get rewarded for improvement, behavior changes.”
Rank, recognize, and coach fuel-efficient driving
Building on Netradyne’s industry-leading scoring systems, the new Fuel application ranks driver and group performance using idling, MPG, drive time, and behavior data. Drivers can see how they rank against peers, understand which behaviors impact fuel usage, and earn recognition for improvement through performance-based rewards.
Fleet managers gain visibility into fuel performance by driver and vehicle through a unified dashboard. Automated detection of fuel-wasting behaviors provides video context, while insights like each driver’s MPG, idling time, vehicle type, terrain, and city vs. highway driving give managers the full picture. This additional context enables fair assessments and personalized coaching, empowering managers to address root causes and drive measurable improvement.
“Positive reinforcement, not just correction, is what makes behavior change stick,” said Pramod Akkarachittor, chief product officer of Netradyne. “When drivers get credit for doing things right, those habits sustain over time. When full-context video insights across safety and fuel efficiency lead to targeted coaching, the impact compounds across risk reduction and measurable savings.”
By aligning safety and fuel efficiency through the same recognition-based scoring and targeted coaching approach, Netradyne helps fleets improve performance while strengthening driver trust.
