NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–PRWeek has named Brandon Stanton, the creator of online storytelling project Humans of New York, as its 2026 Communicator of the Year.
The writer and photographer will be honored at the biggest event in the PR and communications industry, the PRWeek Awards, in New York City on March 12.
Since 2010, Stanton has redefined digital engagement by transitioning from street photography to impromptu and profound long-form interviews with his subjects.
With over 29 million followers and $20 million raised for charities and causes highlighted alongside his profiles, his work demonstrates the unparalleled power of authentic narrative. His recent “Dear New York” exhibition at Grand Central Station — which replaced commercial advertising with portraits of everyday people — highlighted his commitment to elevating lived experiences.
“Brandon is an inspiration to many in the PR sector,” said Steve Barrett, VP, editorial director of PRWeek. “His leadership through excellent content and communication is essential in today’s social climate, fostering understanding across global boundaries.”
Stanton joins an elite roster of previous honorees, including Malala Yousafzai, Michael Phelps, Edie Windsor and David Hogg. He will accept the award at Cipriani Wall Street on Thursday, March 12.
