PANews reported on March 1 that, according to CCTV News, a senior Israeli official stated that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Iran that day. The official also stated that Khamenei's body had been found in the ruins of his residence.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement saying there were numerous signs that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was "no longer alive." He emphasized that Israel had carried out strikes on Khamenei's location that day. Netanyahu said the military operation that day had killed several key leaders involved in Iran's nuclear program, and that Israel would continue to strike multiple Iranian targets. Furthermore, Netanyahu stated that the military operation would continue as long as necessary and called on all parties to remain patient. Earlier, an informed source revealed that Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei had entered the operations command center to direct operations, just as he had during the 12-day war with Israel last year.
There has been no official response from Iran so far.
