Key Highlights

  • British AI infrastructure provider Nscale secured $2 billion in Series C financing, reaching a $14.6 billion company valuation
  • Norwegian firms Aker and 8090 Industries spearheaded the investment, joined by Nvidia, Citadel, Dell, and Jane Street
  • Board additions include ex-Meta leaders Nick Clegg and Sheryl Sandberg, alongside former Yahoo President Susan Decker
  • Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan have been appointed as IPO underwriters for the company’s upcoming public offering
  • Capital will support data centre expansion to accommodate clients including Microsoft and OpenAI

On Monday, March 9, British artificial intelligence infrastructure provider Nscale announced it has successfully closed a $2 billion Series C funding round, elevating the company’s valuation to $14.6 billion.

Norwegian investment firms Aker and 8090 Industries spearheaded the financing round. The investor roster also featured prominent names such as Nvidia, Citadel, Dell, and Jane Street.

Established in 2024, Nscale specializes in owning and managing proprietary data centres, GPU infrastructure, and complete software platforms designed to deliver enterprise-scale AI computational resources.

The company’s client portfolio includes industry giants Microsoft and OpenAI, both commanding significant positions in today’s artificial intelligence landscape.

Nscale intends to allocate the fresh capital toward scaling its data centre infrastructure to address the surging market demand for AI computational capabilities.

The funding announcement coincides with three distinguished industry veterans joining Nscale’s board of directors: Nick Clegg, former Meta executive; Sheryl Sandberg, former Meta Chief Operating Officer; and Susan Decker, former Yahoo President.

Prior to departing in 2024, Clegg held the position of Vice President of Global Affairs at Meta. Sandberg concluded her 14-year tenure as Meta’s COO in 2022.

Public Market Debut on the Horizon

This substantial capital raise arrives as Nscale advances preparations for a potential stock market debut. The firm has already secured Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan as lead underwriters for the anticipated initial public offering.

According to Reuters sources from earlier this year, the specific timing for the market listing remains undetermined.

A successful public offering would unlock additional funding opportunities for Nscale amid intensifying competition within the AI infrastructure sector.

Nvidia’s Strategic Investment

Nvidia’s involvement in this funding round carries particular significance. The semiconductor giant has strategically invested in AI infrastructure enterprises that depend on its GPU technology to deliver their offerings.

Given that Nscale’s core operations center on GPU-driven computing solutions, Nvidia emerges as an obvious strategic partner.

Dell’s participation in the round aligns with the company’s aggressive expansion into AI infrastructure through its hardware and server product lines.

Aker, the Norwegian conglomerate leading the investment, has steadily broadened its portfolio into technology and sustainable energy sectors over recent years.

While 8090 Industries partnered with Aker to co-lead the round, the firm maintains a relatively discrete presence compared to other participating investors.

Despite Nscale not publicly disclosing revenue metrics, the $14.6 billion valuation signals robust investor confidence in companies developing the fundamental infrastructure supporting AI model operations.

According to the company, IPO planning activities continue progressing, with Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan already committed as lead underwriters.

Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
