A new Nigerian AI startup, Veta Origin, has rolled out its large language model across six African countries, aiming to provide AI designed specifically for African users rather than adapting Western models.

Veta Origin, founded by Ismail Waziri, is now live in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, and Zambia. The platform supports English alongside African languages, including Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, and Swahili, a capability most global AI models lack or handle poorly.

The startup is making the model available for real-world testing, with the team iterating quickly based on user feedback. Veta Origin’s goal is to make advanced AI accessible, practical, and relevant to millions across the continent.

In an interview with Technext, Waziri explained the motivation behind Veta Origin: “It started with a simple idea: Africa deserves AI built for Africans, by Africans. We noticed most AI tools don’t reflect local realities, languages, or everyday challenges.”

The observation isn’t trivial. Global AI models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini were primarily trained on Western data, making them less effective in African contexts, local languages, cultural nuances, or region-specific problems. When these models do support African languages, the quality is often poor because of limited training data.

Waziri said the planning phase involved researching real user needs across African markets, mapping out the AI infrastructure and local integrations, and assembling a team capable of handling technology, operations, and outreach.

From concept to development

Execution focused on building a platform that works today, not just a concept.

“We developed an African-focused large language model, launched in six African countries for real user testing, and are iterating quickly based on feedback from early users,” Waziri said.

The goal has always been simple: “Make powerful AI accessible and useful for millions across Africa.”

By launching with African languages from the start, Veta Origin positions itself differently from global players who treat African languages as an afterthought.

Supporting Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, and Swahili allows the AI model to better serve users who prefer to communicate in their native languages, representing a significant market often overlooked by mainstream AI companies.

Why African-built LLMs like Veta matter

The launch comes as African countries grapple with how to participate in the global AI revolution. Most African users currently rely on AI models trained on Western data, which often misunderstand local contexts or provide irrelevant answers to Africa-specific questions.

An AI trained on African data, built by Africans, and designed for African use cases could better serve the continent’s 1.4 billion people. Whether for education, business, healthcare, or government services, contextually relevant AI could unlock opportunities that generic global models miss.

Veta Origin is still in its early days, and whether it can compete with the massive resources behind ChatGPT, Gemini, or other global models remains to be seen. But the six-country rollout signals serious ambition to build AI infrastructure tailored for Africa rather than waiting for Western companies to adapt their products.

The startup is now focused on gathering feedback from early users to improve the model and expand its capabilities.

Whales Dump 200 Million XRP in Just 2 Weeks – Is XRP’s Price on the Verge of Collapse?

Whales offload 200 million XRP leaving market uncertainty behind. XRP faces potential collapse as whales drive major price shifts. Is XRP’s future in danger after massive sell-off by whales? XRP’s price has been under intense pressure recently as whales reportedly offloaded a staggering 200 million XRP over the past two weeks. This massive sell-off has raised alarms across the cryptocurrency community, as many wonder if the market is on the brink of collapse or just undergoing a temporary correction. According to crypto analyst Ali (@ali_charts), this surge in whale activity correlates directly with the price fluctuations seen in the past few weeks. XRP experienced a sharp spike in late July and early August, but the price quickly reversed as whales began to sell their holdings in large quantities. The increased volume during this period highlights the intensity of the sell-off, leaving many traders to question the future of XRP’s value. Can XRP Recover or Is a Bigger Decline Ahead? As the market absorbs the effects of the whale offload, technical indicators suggest that XRP may be facing a period of consolidation. The Relative Strength Index (RSI), currently sitting at 53.05, signals a neutral market stance, indicating that XRP could move in either direction. This leaves traders uncertain whether the XRP will break above its current resistance levels or continue to fall as more whales sell off their holdings. This often points to a potential slowdown or pullback in price, further raising concerns about the future direction of the XRP. With the price currently around $3.02, many are questioning whether XRP can regain its footing or if it will continue to decline. The Aftermath of Whale Activity: Is XRP’s Future in Danger? Despite the large sell-off, XRP is not yet showing signs of total collapse. However, the market remains fragile, and the price is likely to remain volatile in the coming days. With whales continuing to influence price movements, many investors are watching closely to see if this trend will reverse or intensify. The coming weeks will be critical for determining whether XRP can stabilize or face further declines. The combination of whale offloading and technical indicators suggest that XRP’s price is at a crossroads. Traders and investors alike are waiting for clear signals to determine if the XRP will bounce back or continue its downward trajectory.
