The announcement sent the stock up 69.68% before the open, adding to a 12.82% gain from Tuesday. Volume exploded to over 51 million, compared to a three-month average of roughly 1.94 million.

The company is launching Researgency.ai, a platform built to deploy AI agents for biotech and pharmaceutical companies. KALA said it wants to be the “Palantir for biotech,” pointing to Palantir’s $250 billion-plus market cap as a reference point.

The company is working with Younet’s AI engineering team to build the first custom agent, with delivery expected by late March. The Researgency.ai platform is already live and available to enterprise clients.

What the Platform Does

The agents are designed to handle time-consuming, high-stakes tasks in drug development. Those include research monitoring, clinical trial documentation, regulatory compliance, safety reporting, and commercial launch prep.

KALA says the agents will work faster, cheaper, and with fewer errors than humans on these types of tasks. They’re built to operate in a secure environment designed to meet pharmaceutical-grade compliance standards.

The company cited projections that the global AI-in-healthcare market will exceed $180 billion by 2030. KALA’s market cap currently sits at just $8.3 million, with the stock trading at $0.29.

The stock is down 47.21% year-to-date and has fallen 95.78% over the past 12 months. Despite Wednesday’s pre-market spike, the stock remains near historic lows.

Dual Strategy and Financial Pressures

KALA BIO is running a two-track strategy. It still has its biologics pipeline, which includes FDA Orphan Drug and Fast Track designated candidates built on its mesenchymal stem cell secretome platform.

The AI pivot comes with the company under real financial pressure. Its current ratio stands at 0.75, meaning short-term obligations exceed liquid assets.

Earlier this year, KALA settled a debt dispute with Oxford Finance. It made a $2 million payment to resolve around $10.6 million in obligations under a previous loan agreement.

The company also recently parted ways with its auditor, Deloitte & Touche LLP. No replacement has been named yet.

KALA has not disclosed pricing for the Researgency.ai platform, which specific workflow the first agent will target, or any details on existing client commitments.

The company said it will release full details about the first agent after launch, including the targeted workflow and how performance will be measured.
