Anthropic Claude Gets Cross-App Memory for Excel and PowerPoint

Claude AI now shares conversation context across Excel and PowerPoint files, adding one-click workflow skills for financial modeling and pitch decks.

Anthropic Claude Gets Cross-App Memory for Excel and PowerPoint

Anthropic's Claude can now maintain a single conversation thread across multiple Excel and PowerPoint files simultaneously, a capability the $380 billion AI company rolled out March 11 alongside pre-built workflow automation for financial analysts.

The update addresses a persistent friction point in enterprise AI adoption: context loss when switching between applications. Previously, users had to re-explain their data and objectives each time they moved from spreadsheet to presentation. Now Claude reads cell values, writes formulas, and edits slides while remembering everything discussed in either app.

What the Integration Actually Does

Think of it as giving Claude short-term memory across your Microsoft 365 session. A banker building a trading comps table in Excel can ask Claude to drop the valuation summary into their pitch deck without explaining the underlying data again. The AI carries the conversation—and the context—between files.

Anthropic also shipped "skills," which are essentially saved workflows that turn multi-step processes into single clicks. The starter pack targets finance professionals specifically:

For Excel: model auditing for formula errors, LBO/DCF/three-statement template building, comparable company analysis, and data cleaning across ranges or entire workbooks.

For PowerPoint: competitive landscape decks, deck updates with new data, and investment banking presentation reviews covering number consistency and narrative alignment.

Organizations can create custom skills too. When someone figures out the optimal variance analysis workflow, they save it as a skill and the whole team gets access.

Enterprise Deployment Options

The timing matters here. Anthropic announced February 12 that it closed a $30 billion Series G at a $380 billion valuation—making enterprise adoption crucial to justifying that number.

To ease compliance concerns, Claude for Excel and PowerPoint now routes through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud's Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry. Companies already running LLM traffic through approved gateways can plug Claude into existing infrastructure rather than creating new data pathways.

Microsoft's also embedding Claude directly into Excel's Agent Mode, letting Copilot customers run both AI assistants side by side.

The Pentagon Wrinkle

One day before this announcement, an internal Pentagon memo ordered military commanders to remove Anthropic technology from key systems, according to reports from March 10. Anthropic hasn't commented on the directive, but the timing creates an awkward backdrop for an enterprise-focused product launch.

The company appears to be doubling down on commercial expansion regardless—it's also opening a Sydney office as Claude usage grows internationally.

Access and Pricing

Cross-app context and skills are available now in beta for all paid Claude subscribers on Mac and Windows. The feature works through the existing Excel and PowerPoint add-ins. Anthropic's hosting a webinar on best practices for anyone looking to stress-test the new capabilities before rolling them out to teams.

UK Looks to US to Adopt More Crypto-Friendly Approach

The post UK Looks to US to Adopt More Crypto-Friendly Approach appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. The UK and US are reportedly preparing to deepen cooperation on digital assets, with Britain looking to copy the Trump administration’s crypto-friendly stance in a bid to boost innovation.  UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed on Tuesday how the two nations could strengthen their coordination on crypto, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.  The discussions also involved representatives from crypto companies, including Coinbase, Circle Internet Group and Ripple, with executives from the Bank of America, Barclays and Citi also attending, according to the report. The agreement was made “last-minute” after crypto advocacy groups urged the UK government on Thursday to adopt a more open stance toward the industry, claiming its cautious approach to the sector has left the country lagging in innovation and policy.  Source: Rachel Reeves Deal to include stablecoins, look to unlock adoption Any deal between the countries is likely to include stablecoins, the Financial Times reported, an area of crypto that US President Donald Trump made a policy priority and in which his family has significant business interests. The Financial Times reported on Monday that UK crypto advocacy groups also slammed the Bank of England’s proposal to limit individual stablecoin holdings to between 10,000 British pounds ($13,650) and 20,000 pounds ($27,300), claiming it would be difficult and expensive to implement. UK banks appear to have slowed adoption too, with around 40% of 2,000 recently surveyed crypto investors saying that their banks had either blocked or delayed a payment to a crypto provider.  Many of these actions have been linked to concerns over volatility, fraud and scams. The UK has made some progress on crypto regulation recently, proposing a framework in May that would see crypto exchanges, dealers, and agents treated similarly to traditional finance firms, with…
