Namibia is intensifying efforts to position sport and culture as emerging drivers of tourism growth and creative-industry employment.

The launch of the Creative Sport Tourism Expo at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek highlights a growing policy focus on leveraging cultural expression, sporting events and creative entrepreneurship to diversify the country’s tourism offering.

While Namibia remains internationally recognised for its wildlife tourism and natural landscapes, policymakers increasingly view the creative and events economy as an additional avenue for attracting visitors and stimulating local economic activity.

The Creative Sport Tourism Expo aims to bring together athletes, artists, entrepreneurs and tourism operators in a platform designed to showcase Namibia’s cultural and sporting talent. By combining elements of sport, entertainment and cultural expression, the event reflects a broader strategy to strengthen sectors capable of generating employment, particularly among young people.

Officials note that sport tourism and cultural events can create economic spillovers across multiple industries. Hospitality services, media production, fashion, music, marketing and event management all benefit from increased visitor flows and international exposure.

Across Africa, governments are increasingly exploring how sport and creative industries can complement traditional tourism sectors. Festivals, international sporting competitions and cultural exhibitions are becoming important tools for destination marketing and urban economic development.

For Namibia, initiatives such as the Creative Sport Tourism Expo signal an effort to expand the country’s tourism narrative beyond nature-based attractions. By promoting sport and culture as part of its tourism ecosystem, Namibia is seeking to strengthen its creative economy while positioning itself as a destination for regional and international events.
