Iran's new leader receives medical treatment in Russia: report

Iran's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been secretly evacuated to Moscow for medical treatment following injuries sustained in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes that killed his father and other top Iranian officials, according to reports from the Kyiv Post and Kuwaiti newspaper Al Jarida.

Iran's ambassador to Cyprus confirmed Khamenei suffered injuries to his legs, hand, and arm. He reportedly sustained a fractured foot, bruising near his left eye, and minor facial cuts.

Russian President Vladimir Putin personally invited Khamenei to Russia during a March 10 phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Khamenei reportedly underwent surgery and is recovering at one of Putin's presidential residences.

While Tehran confirmed he was wounded but stable, U.S. officials assessed differently. Trump stated Khamenei is alive but "damaged," while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said intelligence indicates he is "wounded and likely disfigured."
