TLDR

  • Messari CEO Eric Turner has stepped down, with CTO Diran Li taking over as the new CEO.
  • The company conducted a fresh round of layoffs, though the exact number was not disclosed.
  • Messari is pivoting to become an “AI-first” company focused on institutional research and AI products.
  • Messari also opened its data layer to autonomous AI agents using the x402 protocol.
  • This follows earlier layoffs of roughly 15% of staff in January 2025 and a similar cut in February 2023.

Blockchain data firm Messari has announced a leadership change and a new round of layoffs as it shifts its focus toward artificial intelligence.

Eric Turner, who had served as interim CEO since July 2024, confirmed on Monday that he has stepped down. Turner took the role after founder Ryan Selkis resigned following a series of controversial social media posts.

Diran Li, who served as Messari’s chief technology officer for over seven years, has been appointed the new CEO. Li said the move came after discussions with Turner and the company’s board of directors.

The leadership change came alongside a reduction in headcount. Li acknowledged the cuts but did not give a specific number. “We’ve parted ways with many teammates who helped build Messari into what it is today,” he said.

Messari laid off around 15% of its full-time staff in January 2025. It made a similar workforce cut in February 2023. This latest round marks the third time the company has reduced headcount in recent years.

Messari’s AI-First Direction

Messari was founded in 2018 as a crypto research and data company. It began adding AI to its products in 2024. The company is known for analytical reports on crypto sectors, market data tools, and hosting its annual Mainnet conference in New York City.

The pivot mirrors moves made by other companies. Block, founded by Jack Dorsey, cut nearly 4,000 jobs last month, partly citing an AI-focused restructuring. Optimism developer OP Labs cut around 20% of its team last week.

Blockchain Data for AI Agents

In the week before the leadership announcement, Li revealed that Messari was opening its data layer to autonomous AI agents. The company adopted the x402 protocol to make its institutional-grade crypto data accessible to developers and AI agents.

Under this system, AI agents can independently source and pay for blockchain data using crypto wallets.

Messari joins a list of crypto-native firms expanding into AI, including Core Scientific, Cipher Mining, MARA Holdings, Hut 8, and Galaxy Digital.

Turner confirmed he will stay on as an advisor to the company following his departure from the CEO role.

EUR/CHF slides as Euro struggles post-inflation data

The post EUR/CHF slides as Euro struggles post-inflation data appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. EUR/CHF weakens for a second straight session as the euro struggles to recover post-Eurozone inflation data. Eurozone core inflation steady at 2.3%, headline CPI eases to 2.0% in August. SNB maintains a flexible policy outlook ahead of its September 25 decision, with no immediate need for easing. The Euro (EUR) trades under pressure against the Swiss Franc (CHF) on Wednesday, with EUR/CHF extending losses for the second straight session as the common currency struggles to gain traction following Eurozone inflation data. At the time of writing, the cross is trading around 0.9320 during the American session. The latest inflation data from Eurostat showed that Eurozone price growth remained broadly stable in August, reinforcing the European Central Bank’s (ECB) cautious stance on monetary policy. The Core Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, rose 2.3% YoY, in line with both forecasts and the previous month’s reading. On a monthly basis, core inflation increased by 0.3%, unchanged from July, highlighting persistent underlying price pressures in the bloc. Meanwhile, headline inflation eased to 2.0% YoY in August, down from 2.1% in July and slightly below expectations. On a monthly basis, prices rose just 0.1%, missing forecasts for a 0.2% increase and decelerating from July’s 0.2% rise. The inflation release follows last week’s ECB policy decision, where the central bank kept all three key interest rates unchanged and signaled that policy is likely at its terminal level. While officials acknowledged progress in bringing inflation down, they reiterated a cautious, data-dependent approach going forward, emphasizing the need to maintain restrictive conditions for an extended period to ensure price stability. On the Swiss side, disinflation appears to be deepening. The Producer and Import Price Index dropped 0.6% in August, marking a sharp 1.8% annual decline. Broader inflation remains…

Elizabeth Warren raises ethics concerns over White House crypto czar David Sacks’ tenure

The post Elizabeth Warren raises ethics concerns over White House crypto czar David Sacks’ tenure appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Democratic lawmakers pressed David Sacks, President Donald Trump’s “crypto and AI czar,” on Sept. 17 to disclose whether he has exceeded the time limits of his temporary White House appointment, raising questions about possible ethics violations. In a letter signed by Senator Elizabeth Warren and seven other members of Congress, the lawmakers said Sacks may have surpassed the 130-day cap for Special Government Employees, a category that allows private-sector professionals to serve the government on a part-time or temporary basis. The Office of Government Ethics sets the cap to minimize conflicts of interest, as SGEs are permitted to continue receiving outside salaries while in government service. Warren has previously raised similar concerns around Sacks’ appointment. Conflict-of-interest worries Sacks, a venture capitalist and general partner at Craft Ventures, has played a high-profile role in shaping Trump administration policy on digital assets and artificial intelligence. Lawmakers argued that his private financial ties to Silicon Valley raise serious ethical questions if he is no longer within the bounds of SGE status. According to the letter: “When issuing your ethics waiver, the White House noted that the careful balance in conflict-of-interest rules for SGEs was reached with the understanding that they would only serve the public ‘on a temporary basis. For you in particular, compliance with the SGE time limit is critical, given the scale of your conflicts of interest.” The group noted that Sacks’ private salary from Craft Ventures is permissible only under the temporary provisions of his appointment. If he has worked past the legal limit, the lawmakers warned, his continued dual roles could represent a breach of ethics. Counting the days According to the letter, Sacks was appointed in December 2024 and began working around Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025. By the lawmakers’ calculation, he reached the 130-day threshold in…
