Pi Network Mainnet Upgrades to Protocol 20: Preparing for the Era of Smart Contracts

Pi Network has reached a pivotal milestone with the successful upgrade of its mainnet to Protocol 20. This upgrade marks a significant step in the network’s evolution, laying the foundation for the integration of smart contract functionality, expanded dApp capabilities, and enhanced participation in the Web3 ecosystem.

The transition to Protocol 20 demonstrates Pi Network’s ongoing commitment to providing a scalable, secure, and decentralized infrastructure capable of supporting complex applications. With millions of verified users already engaged, this upgrade ensures that the network remains competitive and ready for real-world use cases beyond basic transactions.

Smart Contract Capabilities: Unlocking Web3 Potential

One of the most important outcomes of Protocol 20 is the preparation for smart contracts on Pi Network. Smart contracts are self-executing agreements that operate automatically when predefined conditions are met, enabling decentralized applications, automated workflows, and programmable financial instruments.

By enabling smart contract functionality, Pi Network positions itself as a serious player in the Web3 space. Developers can now create decentralized applications that leverage the Pi blockchain’s security and verified user base, opening up opportunities in areas such as decentralized finance, tokenized assets, and governance systems.

Node Operators: Staying Updated and Prepared

With the Protocol 20 upgrade in place, node operators are advised to ensure their systems are fully updated. Maintaining node compliance is critical to supporting network stability, transaction validation, and consensus.

In addition, the community is being alerted to the upcoming Protocol 21 upgrade. While specific details have yet to be released, this next iteration is expected to further enhance smart contract execution, scalability, and interoperability with other blockchain ecosystems. Node operators and developers should monitor official channels for guidance to ensure smooth participation and avoid potential disruptions.

Strengthening Network Infrastructure

The Protocol 20 upgrade also strengthens the overall infrastructure of Pi Network. Improvements include enhanced transaction throughput, optimized consensus mechanisms, and better support for decentralized applications. These updates reinforce the reliability and efficiency of the network, ensuring that both individual users and developers can engage confidently in the ecosystem.

By laying this groundwork, Pi Network is addressing the common challenges faced by emerging blockchain platforms: ensuring performance under increasing user load, supporting complex decentralized applications, and maintaining decentralization without compromising security.

Implications for Pi Network Users

For the network’s growing community, the upgrade signals new opportunities for engagement and utility. Verified users can expect more sophisticated applications and services built directly on the Pi blockchain, while node operators gain the tools necessary to maintain secure and efficient participation.

Moreover, the ongoing development of Protocol 21 highlights Pi Network’s commitment to continuous improvement. Users who stay informed and aligned with protocol updates will be well-positioned to benefit from upcoming features, including expanded smart contract capabilities and ecosystem-wide innovations.

Pi Network’s Roadmap to Web3 Integration

The successful upgrade to Protocol 20 aligns with Pi Network’s broader roadmap for Web3 integration. By focusing on verified participation, decentralization, and scalable infrastructure, the network is creating an environment where developers, users, and node operators can interact seamlessly.

Future iterations, beginning with Protocol 21, are expected to expand this ecosystem further, providing advanced functionalities that align Pi Network with other leading decentralized platforms while maintaining its unique emphasis on mobile-first accessibility and user verification.

Conclusion

Pi Network’s upgrade to Protocol 20 is more than a technical update; it is a strategic milestone that positions the network for the next era of blockchain innovation. With smart contract capabilities on the horizon and the upcoming Protocol 21 upgrade, Pi Network is preparing to support a wide range of decentralized applications and real-world utility.

Node operators, developers, and users are encouraged to stay informed, ensure system readiness, and actively participate in the network’s evolution. This proactive approach will help secure Pi Network’s position as a robust, scalable, and user-focused blockchain ecosystem in the rapidly expanding Web3 landscape.

As the mainnet evolves, the network’s verified community becomes both the center of innovation and the driving force behind Pi Network’s growth, ensuring that the ecosystem remains resilient, decentralized, and prepared for the full potential of blockchain technology.

SEC Backs Nasdaq, CBOE, NYSE Push to Simplify Crypto ETF Rules

The US SEC on Wednesday approved new listing rules for major exchanges, paving the way for a surge of crypto spot exchange-traded funds. On Wednesday, the regulator voted to let Nasdaq, Cboe BZX and NYSE Arca adopt generic listing standards for commodity-based trust shares. The decision clears the final hurdle for asset managers seeking to launch spot ETFs tied to cryptocurrencies beyond Bitcoin and Ether. In July, the SEC outlined how exchanges could bring new products to market under the framework. Asset managers and exchanges must now meet specific criteria, but will no longer need to undergo drawn-out case-by-case reviews. Solana And XRP Funds Seen to Be First In Line Under the new system, the time from filing to launch can shrink to as little as 75 days, compared with up to 240 days or more under the old rules. “This is the crypto ETP framework we’ve been waiting for,” Bloomberg research analyst James Seyffart said on X, predicting a wave of new products in the coming months. The first filings likely to benefit are those tracking Solana and XRP, both of which have sat in limbo for more than a year. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the approval reflects a commitment to reduce barriers and foster innovation while maintaining investor protections. The move comes under the administration of President Donald Trump, which has signaled strong support for digital assets after years of hesitation during the Biden era. New Standards Replace Lengthy Reviews And Repeated Denials Until now, the commission reviewed each application separately, requiring one filing from the exchange and another from the asset manager. This dual process often dragged on for months and led to repeated denials. Even Bitcoin spot ETFs, finally approved in Jan. 2024, arrived only after years of resistance and a legal battle with Grayscale. According to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, the streamlined rules could apply to any cryptocurrency with at least six months of futures trading on the Coinbase Derivatives Exchange. That means more than a dozen tokens may now qualify for listing, potentially unleashing a new wave of altcoin ETFs. SEC Clears Grayscale Large Cap Fund Tracking CoinDesk 5 Index The SEC also approved the Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund, which tracks the CoinDesk 5 Index, including Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana and Cardano. Alongside this, it cleared the launch of options linked to the Cboe Bitcoin US ETF Index and its mini contract, broadening the set of crypto-linked derivatives on regulated US markets. Analysts say the shift shows how far US policy has moved. Where once regulators resisted digital assets, the latest changes show a growing willingness to bring them into the mainstream financial system under established safeguards
