Thailand’s DV8 Public Company Limited has announced plans to build a digital asset portfolio equivalent to 10,000 Bitcoin by 2028 while intending to acquire 1,000 BTC this year. The announcement came alongside the acquisition of Rakkar Digital Company Limited, a digital asset custodian licensed by Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission.

Thai DV8 Plans To Buy 10,000 BTC By 2028

Thailand’s publicly listed DV8 Public Company Limited (SET: DV8) has announced plans to build a digital asset portfolio equivalent to 10,000 Bitcoin (BTC) by 2028, marking one of the most aggressive corporate Bitcoin treasury strategies in Southeast Asia. The company also intends to acquire 1,000 BTC this year (2026) as an initial step toward that goal.

This builds on DV8’s strategic shift in 2025, when a Bitcoin-focused international consortium, including Sora Ventures, acquired control of DV8 through a voluntary tender offer. 

The firm raised 241 million Thai baht, about 7.4 million United States dollars, with 99.9% shareholder participation, boosting cash reserves by 38%.

DV8 also appointed Jason Fang, founding partner of Sora Ventures, as  Co-CEO, and invested in Korea-based Bitplanet, strengthening its digital asset strategy.

Rakkar Acquisition Enables Custody Strategy

DV8’s Bitcoin plan aligns with its agreement to acquire Rakkar Digital, a Thailand-based digital asset custodian licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Rakkar was originally a joint venture between SCBX (parent of Siam Commercial Bank) and Fireblocks, holding over 700 million United States dollars in assets under custody by late 2024, providing strong institutional custody and compliance capabilities.

As part of the deal, DV8 will inject up to 100 million Thai baht, about 3.1 million United States dollars, to meet regulatory net capital requirements. The acquisition strengthens DV8’s infrastructure, positioning it to support its large-scale Bitcoin treasury strategy.

What’s Next for Southeast Asia’s Crypto Adoption

DV8 explicitly draws parallels to successful models like the U.S.-based Strategy Inc. and Japan’s Metaplanet, both of which have aggressively accumulated Bitcoin using similar corporate finance techniques to increase BTC per share.

Southeast Asia already leads in grassroots crypto adoption. Asia-Pacific (APAC), heavily driven by SEA, saw on-chain activity surge 69% year-over-year through mid-2025, with countries like Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand consistently ranking among the world’s top adopters.

Southeast Asia Crypto Adoption Gains Momentum

Notably, Southeast Asia’s crypto shift includes licensed custody, ETFs, and stablecoins, supported by tighter regulations, tokenization, and AI-blockchain integration. This infrastructure growth and real-world adoption could attract institutional capital, boost trust, and drive inclusive, long-term digital asset development.

DV8’s move signals a broader shift as Southeast Asia evolves into a hub for institutional Bitcoin strategies and regulated digital assets. 

If successful, it could boost corporate inflows, deepen liquidity, and strengthen Bitcoin’s role as a strategic reserve asset in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
