PANews reported on March 31 that, according to The Block, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal wrote to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins expressing concern over the departure of former law enforcement chief Margaret Ryan after only six months in office. Blumenthal pointed out that Ryan had disagreements with leadership regarding case handling, including the SEC's decision to drop charges against Tron founder Justin Sun during the Trump administration. As previously reported, Ryan had advocated for a deeper investigation into fraud allegations against those close to Trump's inner circle, but this was opposed by Atkins and other high-ranking Republicans.

In its letter, Blumenthal stated that Ryan's sudden departure raises numerous questions, especially against the backdrop of reports of leadership interference with law enforcement investigations into certain crypto companies. The SEC dropped charges against Justin Sun and his related companies in March of this year; Sun had previously made significant investments in the Trump family's crypto projects. Blumenthal requested the SEC to provide relevant records and communications by April 13th.
