Washington Post foreign affairs correspondent David Ignatius told MS NOW that allied nations are furious over President Donald Trump's approach to exiting the Iran war without reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which would leave 20 percent of global oil trade suspended.

Trump has suggested allies fix the problem themselves, stating it is not America's responsibility.

Ignatius noted allies feel they didn't start the war and are now "being left holding the bag."

He also acknowledged that the Strait closure will economically harm all allies, including China and Japan, necessitating pragmatic action to find solutions. While allies are angry at Trump for creating the situation, self-interest will likely prompt them toward pragmatism, Ignatius explained.

He predicted anger will soon give way to more practical responses as allies confront economic consequences of continued closure
