BAGUIO, Philippines – Local police are now investigating a total of seven persons of interest in connection with the killing of master weaver Irene Gayamos, almost six months after her brutal murder.
Kalinga provincial police director Police Colonel Gilbert Fati-ig shared the development during a joint meeting of the provincial peace and order council on Thursday, March 30, in Barangay Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Fati-ig said two additional individuals have recently been included on the list of persons of interest, expanding the initial list of five earlier identified by investigators.
Gayamos, 30, was killed on the afternoon of November 2, 2025, inside her home in Purok 6, Barangay Bulanao. She sustained multiple stab wounds inflicted by still-unidentified assailants.
Gayamos, a native of Lubuagan town, was known for her work in traditional Kalinga weaving, and was highly regarded by the local craft community.
Following the incident, authorities created a “Task Force Irene” to speed up the probe.
“All investigators under Task Force Irene have been mobilized,” Fati-ig said, noting that the seven persons of interest belong to different groups, but know each other.
He added that the investigation has been challenging due to inconsistent statements from those being probed.
“We are having difficulty because their statements to investigators vary, but we are continuing to sustain our efforts,” Fati-ig said.
A ₱500,000 reward was also offered for information that can lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
Fati-ig said the reward fund came from the provincial peace and order council, chaired by Kalinga Governor James Edduba, and was approved during a meeting on November 17, 2025. – Rappler.com
