Bybit and Bitget charge the same 0.10% on spot and differ by half a basis point on perpetuals, 0.0550% taker on Bybit against 0.06% on Bitget; Bybit wins on options, tokenized equities and UK access, Bitget wins on copy trading and stock futures, and both are leaving Japan in 2026, so for many readers the calendar decides before the fee table does.

Key Takeaways
  • Both platforms charge 0.10% maker and 0.10% taker on spot at the entry tier; paying fees in MNT cuts Bybit to 0.075% and paying in BGB cuts Bitget to 0.08%.
  • Perpetual takers pay 0.0550% on Bybit and 0.06% on Bitget, with makers at 0.02% on both.
  • Bitget lists 580 coins across 1,212 pairs on CoinGecko against 447 coins across 604 pairs on Bybit, and both publish monthly proof of reserves.
  • Bybit lost about $1.5 billion in a February 2025 theft the FBI attributed to North Korea and restored full backing; Bitget rolled back a manipulated VOXEL futures market in April 2025 and pledged compensation from its protection fund.
  • Bybit stopped serving Japanese residents in 2026 and Bitget moves its Japanese accounts to close-only on 1 November 2026, while both serve the EEA under MiCA licences.
  • MEXC publishes 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot, so $10,000 of monthly volume costs $2.50 there against $10.00 on either platform here, for readers outside the US, UK and EEA.

Two derivatives exchanges, two exits from Japan, and a half-basis-point difference

Bybit and Bitget grew up as derivatives venues with copy trading bolted on, and most comparisons still read like a contest between a perpetuals specialist and a copy-trading specialist.
That framing misses what changed in 2026: Bybit closed its doors to Japanese residents in January, Bitget stopped accepting Japanese registrations in August and moves those accounts to close-only on 1 November, and both now operate in Europe through MiCA-licensed entities.
The fee gap, meanwhile, sits at 0.005 percentage points on perpetual takers, which the comparison pages that lead the search results round away to "competitive".
This article puts both schedules in one table with a verification date on each, prices that half basis point in dollars, sets both 2025 incidents side by side with their outcomes, and ends with a verdict by reader type.
Where MEXC fits, it says so in its own labelled section, with the same numbers and the same dates.

A third option worth considering: MEXC

If the fee row above is what brought you here, MEXC publishes 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot, against 0.10% and 0.10% on both platforms in this comparison.
On $10,000 of monthly spot volume split evenly between maker and taker orders, that is $2.50 a month on MEXC against $10.00 on Bybit and $10.00 on Bitget at their entry tiers.
On perpetuals MEXC's BTCUSDT contract lists 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker on its web and app schedule, against 0.0200% and 0.0550% on Bybit and 0.02% and 0.06% on Bitget.
MEXC does not serve residents of the United States or the United Kingdom, is listed on ESMA's non-compliant register for the EEA, and is withdrawing from the Netherlands by 16 November 2026, so check eligibility before funding an account.
Readers outside those regions can see how MEXC compares with six derivatives venues in our Bybit alternatives ranking.

Which is cheaper, Bybit or Bitget?

Tied on spot, and Bybit by half a basis point on perpetuals.
Bybit's VIP 0 spot rate is 0.1000% maker and 0.1000% taker, and Bitget's standard rate is 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker, so a $1,000 order costs $1.00 on either platform.
The token discounts differ slightly: paying fees in MNT takes 25% off Bybit's spot rate, to 0.075%, while paying in BGB takes 20% off Bitget's, to 0.08%, and Bitget's discount applies to spot only.
Bybit's fiat pairs carry a higher schedule of 0.1500% maker and 0.2000% taker, and its xStocks and Adventure Zone markets charge 0.2000% on both sides, so a reader trading USD or EUR pairs directly pays more than the headline rate.
On perpetuals Bybit charges 0.0200% maker and 0.0550% taker, falling to 0.0180% and 0.0495% with MNT, while Bitget charges 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker with no futures discount for BGB.
A $10,000 perpetual taker order therefore costs $5.50 on Bybit and $6.00 on Bitget, a difference that only matters at volume.
Our quarterly crypto exchange fee index holds both schedules beside ten other platforms and records who publishes fees without an account.

Which is better for derivatives?

Bybit, on breadth and price, and Bitget for the trader whose derivatives strategy is someone else's.
On $100,000 of monthly BTCUSDT perpetual notional split evenly between maker and taker orders, Bybit costs $37.50 a month at 0.0200% and 0.0550%, and Bitget costs $40.00 at 0.02% and 0.06%.
The same notional costs $10.00 on MEXC's BTCUSDT contract at 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker, which is the gap the box above quantifies for readers outside the US, UK and EEA.
Bybit adds options at 0.0200% maker and 0.0300% taker, inverse perpetuals and a unified trading account that nets margin across products, none of which Bitget matches.
Bitget's answer is breadth of a different kind: USDT-M, USDC-M and COIN-M perpetuals, and stock futures on tokens such as TSLAUSDT and NVDAUSDT with leverage of up to 25x, per its own product pages.
Both run large copy-trading products, which the next section covers, and both apply liquidation rules that a leveraged trader should read before the first position.

Which is better for copy trading?

Bitget, by scale, with Bybit close behind on tooling.
Bitget describes itself as the largest copy-trading platform in crypto, with a lead-trader base it states in the hundreds of thousands, and its product spans futures and spot copy trading, lead-trader analytics and bots.
Bybit's copy trading is built around master traders, follower tools, rankings and performance history, and it sits alongside options and a unified account rather than at the centre of the product.
The figures Bitget publishes about its lead-trader base are company-stated and not independently audited, so treat them as a description of scale rather than a measure of performance.
Copy trading on either platform is a leveraged product, and followers take on the same liquidation risk as the trader they copy.

Which lists more coins and lists them faster?

Bitget, on both coins and pairs.
Bitget lists 580 coins across 1,212 spot pairs on its CoinGecko page, against 447 coins across 604 pairs on Bybit, and CoinGecko scores Bitget at 10 out of 10 for trust and Bybit at 8 out of 10.
Bitget's pair count is lifted by USDC and EUR quotes on its majors, while Bybit concentrates on USDT and USDC pairs.
Both run early-listing programmes and both list tokenized stocks, Bybit through xStocks and Bitget through its stock futures and Stock+ products, so a reader after equities exposure inside a crypto account can find it on either.

Which is safer and better regulated?

Both carry a 2025 event on their record, and the two events are different in kind.
On 21 February 2025 about $1.5 billion in ETH and staked ETH was taken from a Bybit cold wallet during a routine transfer, and the FBI attributed the theft to North Korea's TraderTraitor actors five days later.
Bybit kept withdrawals open throughout, restored full one-to-one backing of client assets within days according to its own statements, and now publishes monthly proof-of-reserves reports verified by a third-party auditor, per Bybit.
On 20 April 2025 Bitget detected abnormal trading on its VOXEL/USDT perpetual contract, paused the accounts it suspected of manipulation, rolled back the affected trades and said it would compensate users from its protection fund, as Cointelegraph reported.
Bitget publishes monthly proof of reserves and describes a protection fund of more than $300 million, a figure that is company-stated.
In Europe, Bybit EU holds a MiCA licence issued in Austria and Bitget EU holds a MiCA licence, both per the platforms' own announcements.
In Japan, Bybit stopped serving residents in 2026 after repeated warnings from the Financial Services Agency, as DL News reported, and Bitget will move Japanese accounts to close-only on 1 November 2026 and force-close remaining positions after 31 December, as The Paypers reported.
Neither event cost a customer their balance, and both platforms disclose more about reserves and controls today than they did before.

Which is easier to fund and withdraw from?

Both fund accounts through cards, P2P markets and local bank rails wherever they hold a licence, and both require verification first.
Bybit's default daily withdrawal limit is 1,000,000 USDT at Standard verification and 2,000,000 USDT at Advanced verification, and its MNT discount does not apply to API trading.
Bitget has required verification for its core functions since January 2024, sets withdrawal limits by VIP level, and charges 0.9% per transaction on its card.
For European readers both platforms keep SEPA rails open through their MiCA entities, which is more than several larger rivals can say in 2026.

Where can you actually use Bybit and Bitget?

Neither platform serves United States residents, and Bitget also excludes Singapore under its own terms.
In the United Kingdom, Bybit returned in late 2025 with a spot and P2P platform under the FCA's promotions regime, while Bitget is not open to UK retail customers.
In the European Economic Area, both operate through MiCA-licensed entities.
In Japan, Bybit is already closed to residents and Bitget is closing, with registrations stopped in August 2026, close-only mode from 1 November and forced closure after 31 December.
For a Japanese reader the honest answer is that neither platform is a home for 2027, and for a UK reader only Bybit is.

What does a year on Bybit vs Bitget really cost?

Price the same activity on each platform at entry rates, split evenly between maker and taker orders.
A trader with $10,000 of monthly spot volume pays about $120 a year on either platform, or $90 on Bybit with MNT and $96 on Bitget with BGB.
A trader with $100,000 of monthly BTCUSDT perpetual notional pays about $450 a year on Bybit and about $480 on Bitget at entry rates.
The same two profiles cost about $30 and $120 a year on MEXC at its published 0% maker and 0.05% taker spot schedule and 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker BTCUSDT contract.
Between Bybit and Bitget the annual difference is $30 on perpetuals and $6 on discounted spot, so products, copy trading and above all availability should decide the choice.

Who should choose Bybit, and who should choose Bitget?

Choose Bybit if you live in the United Kingdom, because it is the one of the two that is open to you.
Choose Bybit if options, a unified margin account or tokenized equities through xStocks are part of your plan.
Choose Bitget if copy trading is the point, or if stock futures with leverage inside a crypto account are what you came for.
Choose Bitget if you want the wider coin list and USDC or EUR quotes on your majors.
Do not open either platform from the United States, and if you live in Japan, plan your exit from both rather than your entry.
Readers leaving Bitget can follow our guide to transferring crypto from Bitget without losing it on the wrong network, and readers weighing Bitget against other platforms can use our Bitget alternatives comparison.
Readers outside the US, UK and EEA who want a 0.020% taker on BTCUSDT rather than 0.055% or 0.06% can start with our Bybit alternatives ranking.

The MEXC View: where we stand on Bybit vs Bitget

MEXC Learn is published by MEXC, an exchange that competes with both platforms, so read this section as an interested party's opinion.
We think Bybit's handling of the February 2025 theft, with withdrawals open and backing restored within days, is a credit to it, and that its options and unified account make it the more complete derivatives venue.
We think Bitget's copy-trading product is the most developed in the market by the company's own numbers, and that its decision to roll back and compensate after the VOXEL incident was the right call even though rollbacks are never popular.
We also think the honest reading of this comparison is that the two are closer than their marketing suggests, and that the Japan exits and the UK gap will decide it for more readers than the half basis point will.
Where MEXC fits is on price for readers outside the US, UK and EEA: 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot, and 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker on the BTCUSDT contract, with every figure carrying a verification date.
Our review methodology explains how we score exchanges we compete with.
