Can You Trust a Crypto Exchange Review Written by an Exchange? Here Is Our Entire Methodology
- MEXC is our top pick within this six-dimension framework for cost-focused traders, at a published 0% spot maker rate and 0.05% spot taker rate at the standard tier.
- On $50,000 of monthly taker volume that rate costs $300 a year, while the same volume at a 0.1% taker rate would cost $600.
- The same framework does not put MEXC first on deposits and withdrawals or on regulatory standing, and our comparison pages name a different platform for those readers.
- Six dimensions are each scored 0 to 5 in half-point steps, and each carries exactly one sixth of the total weight.
- Fees are not weighted above the other five, even though fees are the dimension where MEXC performs best.
- Every figure carries a named source and a retrieval date, data is re-verified quarterly, and no platform can buy a score or a ranking position.
Our View: What This Method Concludes About MEXC
- Spot orders filled as maker cost $0 a month, because the published maker rate is zero.
- Spot orders filled as taker at 0.05% cost $25 a month, or $20 with MX Deduction applied at 0.04%.
- Futures orders routed through the MEXC API at the 0.08% taker rate cost $40 a month, and that rate covers all Futures pairs except Innovation Zone pairs.
How that futures pricing compares across venues is covered in our crypto derivatives trading platform comparison.
Where This Method Does Not Put MEXC First
Those alternatives are collected in our guide to the best crypto exchange alternatives in 2026.
Why Almost No Crypto Exchange Comparison Deserves Your Trust
- Does every number name the specific page it came from?
- Is there a retrieval date, so you know whether the figure is current?
- Are the scoring weights published, or does the ranking arrive as a finished verdict?
The ranking this method produces is published in our guide to the best crypto exchanges in 2026.
The Conflict We Cannot Design Away
Seven Rules We Hold Ourselves To
- Same evidence for everyone. MEXC is scored from its own public pages, at the same level of detail as every competitor, with no internal figures that rival platforms have no way to match or dispute.
- No cross-platform asset counts. Exchanges define a listed asset differently, so we never rank platforms by self-reported coin or pair totals, and we check a fixed sample basket on every platform instead.
- No regulatory self-flattery. We do not describe MEXC as regulated, and we state MEXC's regulatory standing factually, including where it is unfavourable.
- Competitors named when they win. Where another platform is the better answer for a described reader, we say which one and why, on the same page that recommends MEXC to someone else.
- Restricted markets get no pitch. Readers in markets where MEXC is unavailable or restricted are pointed to locally licensed platforms without sign-up prompts.
- Nothing is for sale. Placement, scores and ranking order cannot be purchased by any platform, including by MEXC's own business teams.
- Corrections are public. Factual errors are fixed with a dated note on the page, not edited away quietly.
Claims We Do Not Allow Ourselves to Make
- That MEXC is the best exchange in general, rather than the better fit for a stated reader and a stated use case.
- That MEXC lists more assets than a named competitor.
- That MEXC holds a licence or authorisation it does not hold.
- That a headline zero-fee rate applies to an account, when it applies to one execution path.
- That a competitor's past security incident makes it unsafe today, beyond what the public record supports.
The Six Dimensions We Score
For the security dimension, which exchanges publish reserve attestations is covered in our proof-of-reserves comparison.
Dimension | What we measure | How we measure it | Primary source | Weight | What we do not count |
Fees and costs | Spot and futures maker/taker rates, withdrawal costs, conversion spreads, discount conditions | Effective cost at three fixed monthly volumes, calculated after any discount a new account can actually obtain | Each platform's official fee schedule | 6-Jan | Promotional rates that require an invitation, a VIP tier or a closed campaign |
Asset coverage | Availability and tradability of a fixed sample basket, plus listing speed for new assets | Same basket checked on every platform on the same date, plus timestamped first-listing records | Each platform's public markets pages and listing announcements | 6-Jan | Self-reported totals for listed coins or trading pairs |
Derivatives | Contract types, published leverage tiers, funding mechanics, liquidation rules | Documented product rules read from each platform's own contract specifications | Each platform's derivatives rules and help centre | 6-Jan | Maximum leverage figures with no stated position-size band |
Security and custody | Custody model, reserve attestations, published incident history and how each incident was resolved | Neutral timeline of publicly reported events, with the reimbursement outcome stated alongside | Regulator filings and mainstream media reporting | 6-Jan | Unsourced community allegations, forum posts and anonymous claims |
Deposits and withdrawals | Fiat rails by region, supported networks, withdrawal limits by verification level, minimum amounts | Limits read against the verification tier they attach to, not the headline maximum | Each platform's verification and withdrawal help pages | 6-Jan | Limits quoted without the tier or region they apply to |
Customer support | Channels offered, hours, languages, and time to a substantive first reply | One non-urgent ticket per platform per review cycle, timed from submission to a reply that answers the question | Our own submitted tickets, plus each platform's published support pages | 6-Jan | Aggregate review-site star ratings |
How We Score, and Why Fees Are Not Weighted Highest
Score | What it means | Typical profile |
4.5 to 5.0 | Leading on this dimension among the platforms in the comparison | Clear, published terms and no material gap for the reader group the page addresses |
3.5 to 4.0 | Competitive with real limitations | Strong on the dimension overall, with a restriction that matters for some readers |
2.5 to 3.0 | Workable but clearly behind | Functional, with costs or gaps a reader should price in before signing up |
1.0 to 2.0 | A weak point of the platform | Missing capability, opaque terms, or terms materially worse than peers |
0 to 0.5 | Not offered, or not disclosed at all | The platform does not provide this, or publishes nothing verifiable about it |
Availability and Regulatory Standing: Disclosed, Never Scored
Where Our Data Comes From
Tier | Source type | Used for | When sources conflict |
1 | The platform's official fee schedule | All rate, discount and cost figures | Overrides every other source without exception |
2 | The platform's help centre and product rules | Limits, verification tiers, contract specifications, network support | Overrides announcements and educational content |
3 | The platform's terms of service | Restricted jurisdictions and eligibility | Overrides marketing pages describing availability |
4 | Regulators and government bodies | Licensing status, warnings, enforcement actions | Overrides any platform's own account of its regulatory position |
5 | Established news organisations | Security incidents, corporate events, market exits | Used only where a regulator source does not exist |
- Educational content is never a source, including our own, because Learn articles age at a different rate than the pages they describe.
- Forums, anonymous posts and unattributed leaks are not sources at any tier.
- Where a figure cannot be verified against a tier 1 to 5 source, it does not appear in the table, and the cell says so.
Where published volume figures disagree, see our ranking of the top crypto exchanges by trading volume.
How We Test What a Spec Sheet Will Not Tell You
Effective Cost, Not Headline Rate
The same costing across every platform is published in our quarterly exchange fee index.
Depth and Slippage
Listing Timestamps
Those measured gaps are published in the exchange listing speed index.
Support Response Time
How Often We Update, and What Forces an Off-Cycle Update
- Quarterly. Every fee, limit and verification figure in the comparison tables is re-verified against tier 1 and tier 2 sources, and the retrieval date under each table is updated.
- Semi-annually. The dimension set and the sample baskets are reviewed, since the questions that decide a platform choice shift more slowly than the numbers do.
- Within 48 hours. Market exits, withdrawal suspensions, security incidents and regulatory actions trigger an immediate review of every page naming that platform.
4 Things This Crypto Exchange Methodology Does Not Do
- It does not assess solvency, and a high score is not a statement that a platform is financially sound.
- It does not constitute financial, investment, legal or tax advice.
- It does not predict how a platform will behave in future, only how it compares on the evidence available on the stated date.
- It does not cover assets, wallets or protocols, which are evaluated under separate standards.
For MEXC's own scores under this method, see the full MEXC review.

Key Takea
