For limit-order traders, MEXC is the cheaper choice in this comparison, because its 0% spot maker rate is lower than anything PointPay's PXP discounts can reach, which bottom out at 0.02%.
Market-order traders holding large PXP balances can undercut MEXC's 0.05% taker rate at PointPay, and MEXC does not serve US or UK residents.

Key Takeaways
  • MEXC charges 0% on spot maker orders with no token required, while PointPay's lowest documented rate is 0.02%, reached only at its top PXP tier.
  • On $5,000 of monthly limit orders, MEXC costs $0, PointPay without PXP $5.00 and PointPay at its top PXP tier $1.00.
  • On $5,000 of market orders, MEXC costs $2.50, or $2.00 paying in MX, while PointPay costs $5.00 without PXP and $2.25 at its 55% tier.
  • The 2024 PXP token swap, at 8.2 old tokens per new one, changed the balances behind each discount level, so the published thresholds may be out of date.
  • CoinGecko rated PointPay 7 out of 10 on 5 October 2026 and identified no regulatory authorization, our scans found no notice naming it, and MEXC's operator faces 2026 actions from Seychelles' FSA and Dubai's VARA.
  • Transfers between PointPay users are free and instant, and its Earn account and PXP staking reward holders of its token.

A fee discount that depends on holding a platform's own token is really two decisions: how you trade, and how much of that token you are willing to own.
PointPay charges 0.1% on spot trades without its PXP token and cuts that rate by 30% to 80% as your PXP balance grows, while MEXC's maker rate is already 0%.
This PointPay vs MEXC comparison works out where the two meet for limit-order and market-order traders, and what else each platform lets you check.

Who Pays Less on $5,000 a Month of Spot Trades, MEXC or PointPay?

It depends on how you trade: limit-order traders pay nothing on MEXC and at least $1.00 a month on PointPay, while market-order traders with a large PXP stake can pay less on PointPay.
The figures below use PointPay's published discount table and MEXC's fee page.
Most comparison pages stop at the headline taker rate, but the split between limit and market orders decides who actually pays less.
MEXC prices spot limit orders at 0% and market orders at 0.05%, or 0.04% when fees are paid in MX, on its fee page, with no token balance required.
PointPay's Trading FAQ lists 0.1% for both sides when the Spot Account holds no PXP, then discounts of 30% from 300 PXP, 55% from 5,001 PXP and 80% above 50,000 PXP.
Publishing a full table is less common than it should be, as our fee-transparency count across 12 exchanges found.
On $5,000 of limit orders a month, MEXC costs $0.00, PointPay without PXP costs $5.00, and even the top PXP tier leaves a $1.00 bill.
On $5,000 of market orders, MEXC costs $2.50, or $2.00 with MX, while PointPay costs $5.00 without PXP, $2.25 at the 55% tier and $1.00 at the 80% tier.
So a market-order trader holding more than 5,000 PXP on the published table pays less at PointPay than at MEXC's standard taker rate, and above 50,000 PXP pays half as much as MEXC with MX.
Those PXP thresholds date from before PointPay's 2024 token swap, and its swap FAQ says the levels were revised by the swap ratio, so check the tier your balance reaches today.
A PXP stake also carries price risk of its own, which a 0% maker rate does not.

The MEXC View

We are MEXC, and this section argues our own case, so read it with the same scepticism you would bring to any company describing itself.
PointPay earns credit for its published discount table, free instant transfers and rewards for holders, and the Seychelles and Dubai actions against our operator belong in the same balance.
Our pitch is simple to test: a 0% limit-order rate that needs no token, fees and reserves anyone can check, and a monthly audit by Hacken.
If local licensing in the US, the UK or the EU matters to you, MEXC does not meet it.
Where MEXC falls short is spelled out in the limits our MEXC review lists.

How Do MEXC and PointPay Measure Up Across Six Checks?

The six checks run from fees and coin coverage to trust signals, account rules and each platform's standout feature, with tracker data for both taken on the same day.
They follow the comparison framework we apply throughout, with sources noted below the table.

What Does PointPay Offer Beyond Trading?

Mostly rewards for holding PXP: its Platform FAQ cites up to 1% a year on PXP in the Earn account and up to 5% a year through PXP staking, alongside a launchpad, voting on new listings and its own blockchain.
Transfers to other PointPay users are detected automatically and settle instantly at no cost, and support runs around the clock.
Its current knowledge base has no lending section and lists no spending card, so the crypto-bank label that older listings use no longer describes the whole product.
MEXC Earn offers flexible and fixed savings after identity verification, and MEXC's Visa cards cover spending where they are issued, as the MEXC Card page sets out.

Which Platform Shows Its Reserves?

MEXC does: CoinGecko tracks about $618 million in MEXC exchange reserves and its monthly snapshots are audited by Hacken, while CoinGecko shows no reserve data for PointPay and its knowledge base has no proof-of-reserves page.
Both still have records worth weighing.
What CoinGecko weighs, and how much, is laid out in its Trust Score methodology.
PointPay's score on 5 October 2026 was 7 out of 10, its liquidity rated minimal but its average spread a tight 0.33%, against 9 out of 10 and moderate liquidity for MEXC.
Bitcoin was covered 2.97 times over in MEXC's 10 September 2026 snapshot, published on its proof-of-reserves page.
After a hack, users depend on what the exchange actually holds, which how users fared after 81 exchange breaches illustrates.
CoinGecko's regulation field for PointPay is empty, and its knowledge base does not name a licence either, whatever some third-party listings say.
Nothing naming PointPay turned up in our regulator searches on 5 and 6 October 2026.
MEXC's field is not empty, but the Comoros licence it shows sits in a regime CoinGecko rates as defined but unproven.
In May 2026, Seychelles' FSA said MX Global Ltd was running MEXC without a licence under its 2024 virtual asset law and began enforcement, as its press release states.
Dubai followed a month later, and VARA's notice of fines records a penalty on that operator for onboarding Dubai clients without authorization from 2022 until April 2026.

Which Platform Fits Your Trading Style?

Pick MEXC if you trade mainly with limit orders, want a fee that does not depend on holding a token, or want audited reserves.
Pick PointPay if you already hold a large PXP balance, trade mostly at market, and value instant free transfers to other PointPay users.
Before choosing on fees alone, confirm the PXP tier your balance reaches today, since the published table predates the token swap.
For readers in the US, the UK and Australia this comparison is general information, and a locally licensed platform is the right choice.
EU and EEA residents get no MiCA-authorized service from MEXC, and in the Netherlands MEXC accounts close on 16 November 2026, with offboarding required by 31 October.

Risk Warning and Regional Notice

Perpetual futures and leverage amplify both gains and losses, and positions can be liquidated for the full margin amount.
At 500x, a move of roughly 0.2% against a position can trigger liquidation, so high tiers suit only experienced traders with strict risk controls.
This article is informational for readers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, where the platforms discussed may not be available or authorised.
In the EU and EEA, MEXC is not authorized under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
The Dutch regulator AFM has placed MEXC on its register of non-compliant entities, which ESMA republishes, and readers in those regions should factor this status into any decision.
In a May 26, 2026 press release, the Seychelles Financial Services Authority said the company it identifies as operating the MEXC platform does not hold a licence under its Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2024, that it is initiating enforcement measures, and that the public should exercise caution when dealing with the platform.
In a June 22, 2026 notice of fines, Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority said the entity operating as MEXC had served customers in Dubai without a licence from 2022 to April 2026 and onboarded users without meeting UAE know-your-customer requirements, and that it cooperated, complied with cease-and-desist orders and intends to seek a licence.
Nothing here is investment advice, and fees, leverage tiers, and availability change, so confirm current terms on each platform's official pages before trading.
