OKX is slightly cheaper on both books, 0.05% against 0.055% for perpetual takers and 0.08% against 0.10% for spot makers, and it is licensed in more places, with a US exchange, a UK entity, a MiCA licence and a Singapore payment licence; Bybit answers with copy trading, tokenized equities and a unified margin account, and for readers in the United States or Singapore the licensing map settles the question before the fees do.

Key Takeaways
  • OKX's entry-tier spot rate is 0.080% maker and 0.100% taker, against 0.1000% and 0.1000% on Bybit, so makers save 0.02 percentage points on OKX before token discounts.
  • Perpetual takers pay 0.05% on OKX and 0.0550% on Bybit, with makers at 0.02% on both, and both list options at 0.02% maker and 0.03% taker.
  • OKX serves the US, the UK, the EEA and Singapore under local licences, while Bybit serves the UK and the EEA and excludes the US and Singapore.
  • In the same week of February 2025, Bybit lost about $1.5 billion to a theft the FBI attributed to North Korea and restored full backing, and OKX pleaded guilty in the US and paid more than $504 million.
  • Bybit lists 447 coins across 604 pairs on CoinGecko against 306 coins across 1,175 pairs on OKX, and both publish monthly proof of reserves.
  • MEXC publishes 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot, so $10,000 of monthly volume costs $2.50 there against $9.00 on OKX and $10.00 on Bybit, for readers outside the US, UK and EEA.

Two derivatives venues, one week that changed both

OKX and Bybit are the two exchanges most often shortlisted by traders who care about perpetuals, and the comparison pages between them tend to split on personality: OKX for Web3 and tools, Bybit for derivatives and copy trading.
The numbers are closer and more specific than that: OKX undercuts Bybit by half a basis point on perpetual takers and by two basis points on spot makers, and the two share identical options fees.
The bigger difference arrived in February 2025, when Bybit suffered the largest theft in crypto history on the 21st and OKX pleaded guilty to US charges on the 24th, and the two platforms have spent the eighteen months since rebuilding in different directions, Bybit through reserves and Europe, OKX through licences on four continents.
This article puts both schedules in one table with a verification date on each, prices the gaps in dollars, sets both events side by side with their outcomes, and ends with a verdict by reader type.
Where MEXC fits, it says so in its own labelled section, with the same numbers and the same dates.

A third option worth considering: MEXC

If the fee row above is what brought you here, MEXC publishes 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot, against 0.08% and 0.10% on OKX and 0.10% and 0.10% on Bybit at the entry tier.
On $10,000 of monthly spot volume split evenly between maker and taker orders, that is $2.50 a month on MEXC against $9.00 on OKX and $10.00 on Bybit.
On perpetuals MEXC's BTCUSDT contract lists 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker on its web and app schedule, against 0.02% and 0.05% on OKX and 0.0200% and 0.0550% on Bybit.
MEXC does not serve residents of the United States or the United Kingdom, is listed on ESMA's non-compliant register for the EEA, and is withdrawing from the Netherlands by 16 November 2026, so check eligibility before funding an account.
Readers outside those regions can see how MEXC compares with six derivatives venues in our Bybit alternatives ranking.

Which is cheaper, OKX or Bybit?

OKX, on both books, by small margins.
OKX's regular-user Lv1 schedule is 0.080% maker and 0.100% taker on spot, and Bybit's VIP 0 schedule is 0.1000% maker and 0.1000% taker, so a $1,000 limit order that rests on the book costs $0.80 on OKX and $1.00 on Bybit, while a $1,000 market order costs $1.00 on either.
Bybit's MNT fee payment takes 25% off its spot rate, to 0.075%, which beats OKX's entry maker rate for a reader who holds the token, and OKX's schedule steps down with OKB holdings and 30-day volume.
Bybit's fiat pairs carry a higher schedule of 0.1500% maker and 0.2000% taker, and its xStocks and Adventure Zone markets charge 0.2000% on both sides.
On perpetuals OKX charges 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker, and Bybit charges 0.0200% maker and 0.0550% taker, falling to 0.0180% and 0.0495% with MNT, so the token discount narrows the perpetual gap to almost nothing.
Options are priced identically at 0.02% maker and 0.03% taker on both.
Our quarterly crypto exchange fee index holds both schedules beside ten other platforms and records who publishes fees without an account.

Which is better for derivatives?

A tie on product, a small edge to OKX on price, and a split on account structure.
On $100,000 of monthly BTCUSDT perpetual notional split evenly between maker and taker orders, OKX costs $35.00 a month at 0.02% and 0.05%, and Bybit costs $37.50 at 0.0200% and 0.0550%, or $33.75 with MNT.
The same notional costs $10.00 on MEXC's BTCUSDT contract at 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker, which is the gap the box above quantifies for readers outside the US, UK and EEA.
Both list perpetual swaps, delivery futures and options, and both let traders net margin across products, OKX through portfolio margin and Bybit through its unified trading account.
OKX adds a bot suite that runs grid, DCA and arbitrage strategies inside the exchange, while Bybit adds inverse perpetuals and a copy-trading marketplace built around derivatives.
For a trader who wants the lowest published rate without a token, OKX is ahead by half a basis point; for a trader who holds MNT, the two are level.

Which is better for copy trading, bots and Web3?

Bybit for copy trading, OKX for bots and on-chain access.
Bybit's copy trading is built around master traders, follower tools, rankings and performance history, and it is one of the reasons derivatives traders keep an account there.
OKX offers copy trading too, but its distinctive products are its bot suite and the OKX Wallet, a self-custody wallet with a DEX aggregator that routes across more than 130 blockchains.
Bybit's xStocks give non-US, non-UK, non-Canadian and non-Australian readers tokenized equities inside the exchange, a product OKX does not offer.
Copy trading on either platform is a leveraged product, and followers take on the same liquidation risk as the trader they copy.

Which lists more coins and lists them faster?

Bybit lists more coins and OKX lists more pairs.
Bybit lists 447 coins across 604 spot pairs on CoinGecko, and OKX lists 306 coins across 1,175 pairs, with CoinGecko scoring OKX at 10 out of 10 for trust and Bybit at 8 out of 10.
OKX's pair count comes from quoting assets against several stablecoins, BTC, ETH and fiat currencies, while Bybit concentrates on USDT and USDC pairs.
Both run early-listing programmes, and OKX's wallet reaches millions of on-chain tokens that neither centralised order book lists.

Which is safer and better regulated?

Both carry a February 2025 event on their record, and both publish monthly proof of reserves.
On 21 February 2025 about $1.5 billion in ETH and staked ETH was taken from a Bybit cold wallet during a routine transfer, and the FBI attributed the theft to North Korea's TraderTraitor actors five days later.
Bybit kept withdrawals open throughout, restored full one-to-one backing of client assets within days according to its own statements, and now publishes monthly proof-of-reserves reports verified by a third-party auditor, per Bybit.
On 24 February 2025 OKX's operating entity pleaded guilty to running an unlicensed money transmitting business and agreed to penalties of more than $504 million, according to the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, and it retains an external compliance consultant through February 2027.
Since then OKX has launched a US exchange, and holds a MiCA licence in Malta and a Singapore payment licence per its own announcements, while Bybit EU holds a MiCA licence issued in Austria, per Bybit.
OKX publishes monthly proof-of-reserves reports with zk-STARK verification, and Bybit publishes monthly reports verified by a third-party auditor, so both let a client check backing.
Neither event cost a customer their balance, and both platforms disclose more about reserves and controls today than they did before.

Which is easier to fund and withdraw from?

OKX, for anyone funding from a US, UK, EEA or Singapore bank account, because those are the rails its licences unlock.
Both fund accounts through cards, bank transfers and P2P markets wherever they hold a licence, and both require full verification before the first withdrawal.
OKX's 24-hour withdrawal limits scale with verification level and fee tier, and Bybit's default daily limit is 1,000,000 USDT at Standard verification and 2,000,000 USDT at Advanced.
Bybit's MNT discount does not apply to API trading, which matters for a reader who automates.

Where can you actually use OKX and Bybit?

OKX is the more widely licensed of the two.
In the United States, OKX US serves 46 states and Washington DC with a reduced product set, while Bybit does not serve US residents.
In the United Kingdom, OKX operates OKX UK, and Bybit returned in late 2025 with a spot and P2P platform.
In the European Economic Area, OKX operates under a MiCA licence issued in Malta and Bybit through Bybit EU under a MiCA licence issued in Austria.
In Singapore, OKX holds a Major Payment Institution licence per its own announcements, while Bybit's global platform is not offered to Singapore residents under its own terms.
For a US or Singapore reader the comparison is OKX or nothing; for a UK or EEA reader it is a real choice.

What does a year on OKX vs Bybit really cost?

Price the same activity on each platform at entry rates, split evenly between maker and taker orders.
A trader with $10,000 of monthly spot volume pays about $108 a year on OKX and about $120 a year on Bybit, or $90 on Bybit with MNT.
A trader with $100,000 of monthly BTCUSDT perpetual notional pays about $420 a year on OKX and about $450 on Bybit at entry rates, or $405 on Bybit with MNT.
The same two profiles cost about $30 and $120 a year on MEXC at its published 0% maker and 0.05% taker spot schedule and 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker BTCUSDT contract.
Between OKX and Bybit the annual difference is $12 on spot and $30 on perpetuals before token discounts, so licensing, tools and copy trading should decide the choice.

Who should choose OKX, and who should choose Bybit?

Choose OKX if you live in the United States or Singapore, because it is the one of the two that is licensed to serve you.
Choose OKX if you run bots, want a portfolio margin account, or move between centralised and on-chain markets through one wallet.
Choose Bybit if copy trading is central to how you trade, or if you want tokenized equities and inverse perpetuals in the same account.
Choose Bybit if you hold MNT and want its discount on spot and perpetuals.
Do not open either global platform from the United States, and read each platform's terms for your country before funding.

The MEXC View: where we stand on OKX vs Bybit

MEXC Learn is published by MEXC, an exchange that competes with both platforms, so read this section as an interested party's opinion.
We think OKX has done the harder thing since February 2025 by paying its US penalty and collecting licences on four continents, and that its 0.08% maker rate is a fair price for a platform that is legal in more places than almost any other global exchange.
We think Bybit's response to its own February 2025 crisis, with withdrawals open and backing restored within days, earned it the trust it now enjoys among derivatives traders, and that its copy-trading product remains the best developed on any large exchange.
We also think the two are closer on price than either's marketing admits, and that for most readers the map will decide before the half basis point does.
Where MEXC fits is on price for readers outside the US, UK and EEA: 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot, and 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker on the BTCUSDT contract, with every figure carrying a verification date.
Our review methodology explains how we score exchanges we compete with.

Risk and compliance disclosure

Crypto assets are volatile and you can lose your entire deposit; derivatives, leverage and copy trading add liquidation risk on top of price risk.
Fees, listings and regional availability change; every figure above carries its verification date and should be re-checked before you act on it.
Neither MEXC nor Bybit serves United States residents; US readers should compare the platforms licensed in their state.
MEXC does not accept United Kingdom residents, is listed on ESMA's register of non-compliant entities for the EEA, and is offboarding Netherlands users by 16 November 2026, so the MEXC sections above are informational for readers in those regions.

Key Takea
