Pyth Network collects frequent price updates from trusted sources known as publishers and converts them into market data that onchain applications can consume. Its central infrastructure is Pythnet, a purpose-built network designed specifically to transmit price information efficiently, rather than relying on standard blockchains. Publishers first submit their price data to Pythnet; Pyth then aggregates those inputs into a single consolidated price and makes the result available to other blockchains. A key characteristic is the pull-based approach: prices are provided only when requested, rather than continuously pushed to every chain—helping to keep distribution costs down. The aggregation method also aims to limit the influence of outlier reports, so that a single unusual value does not disproportionately affect the final price.

The PYTH token powers the network and has a fixed total supply of 10 billion tokens that will not increase. At launch, 85% of the supply is initially locked and set to unlock gradually over 3.5 years, a structure intended to reduce the risk of sudden value swings. The allocation is divided as follows: 22% for publisher rewards, 52% for ecosystem growth, 10% for protocol development, 6% for the community and launch, and 10% sold through private sales. This split prioritises expanding the network while also rewarding publishers for delivering accurate price data. Users who access Pyth’s price feeds pay a small fee in the native token of the blockchain they are using, creating a continuing model where usage helps support the system.
