Following a successful pilot programme, TransUnion Philippines and Mastercard have partnered to provide financial institutions with a more comprehensive view of consumer financial behaviour.

The collaboration merges TransUnion’s traditional credit and alternative data with Mastercard’s aggregated transaction intelligence.

This joint effort aims to assist lenders in evaluating individuals with minimal or no prior borrowing history.

Incorporating behavioural signals from everyday spending activity allows banks to better evaluate an applicant’s financial capacity and risk profile

Consequently, financial institutions are able to distinguish between applicants who share similar financial backgrounds.

They can then use this detailed information to streamline the application review process and tailor their product offerings.

Alongside the expanded data coverage, Mastercard is supplying dedicated consulting services to financial institutions.

These advisory services are designed to help lenders optimise their portfolio margins and improve collection strategies.

The overarching goal of the initiative is to foster greater financial inclusion and economic opportunity across the country.

Peter Faulhaber, President and CEO at TransUnion Philippines, stated that combining these insights helps institutions make confident decisions whilst offering “fair and relevant access to the financial system” for Filipinos with limited credit histories.

Jason Crasto, Mastercard’s Country Manager for the Philippines, noted that the partnership provides a fuller picture of everyday economic participation.

He added that this combined intelligence allows lenders to responsibly “extend credit opportunities to people who have historically been underserved”.
