Ondo (ONDO) Tokenomika

Ondo Finance (ONDO) is a decentralized finance protocol focused on bringing institutional-grade financial products, such as tokenized US Treasuries, onchain. The ONDO token serves as the primary governance and utility mechanism for the ecosystem.

Issuance Mechanism

ONDO is an ERC-20 token deployed on the Ethereum network. The protocol established a fixed maximum supply to ensure scarcity and predictability in its economic model.

• Maximum Token Supply: 10,000,000,000 (10 billion) ONDO.
• Inflation: There is currently no scheduled or planned inflation for the ONDO token.
• Creation Date: The token was officially created on April 28, 2022.

Allocation Mechanism

The distribution of ONDO tokens is divided among several key stakeholder groups, including early investors, the core team, and ecosystem development initiatives.

The Ecosystem Growth allocation is reserved for future distributions, which may include airdrops and incentives for developers, educators, and strategic contributors. The Protocol Development share is dedicated to core contributors building the infrastructure and products within the Ondo ecosystem.

Usage and Incentive Mechanism

The ONDO token is primarily utilized for decentralized governance and ecosystem participation.

Governance

ONDO is the governance token for the Ondo DAO and Flux Finance. Tokenholders can:

• Submit and vote on onchain proposals.
• Propose changes such as listing new assets (fTokens), updating interest rate models, or managing the DAO treasury.
• Requirements: A user must have at least 100 million ONDO delegated to them to submit a proposal. A quorum of 1 million ONDO is required for a proposal to pass.

Incentives and Points Program

The Ondo Foundation operates an Ondo Points Program to incentivize long-term holding and community engagement:

• Holding Rewards: Users earn points for holding ONDO onchain.
• Diamond Hands: Participants in the Community Access Sale who held their tokens through March 31, 2024, received point boosts. Conversely, "paper hands" (those who sold) were excluded from these specific rewards.
• Future Rewards: While points currently track engagement, the foundation has indicated that further rewards for point holders will be announced in the future.

Locking and Unlocking Mechanism

The ONDO token was initially subject to a Global Lock-Up that prevented all transfers until the community voted to enable them.

Locking Mechanism

• Global Lock-Up: From its creation until early 2024, ONDO tokens could not be transferred, though they could still be used for governance voting.
• Public Launch: On January 18, 2024, the "enableTransfer" function was called following a successful DAO proposal (FIP-08), marking the official public launch.

Unlocking Schedule and Timeframes

Different tranches of tokens are subject to specific vesting schedules and cliffs:

• CoinList Tranche 1: 1-year lock followed by an 18-month release period.
• CoinList Tranche 2: 1-year lock followed by a 6-month release period.
• Seed & Series A Investors: 1-year lock followed by a 48-month release period.
• Core Team: Bound by a strict 5-year lock-up period.
• Protocol Development: Subject to a one-year cliff starting from the January 18, 2024 public launch, followed by three years of yearly vesting.

Future Unlock Events

Based on protocol data, significant annual unlock events are scheduled for January 18 of each year:

• January 18, 2025: Approximately 1,939,613,682 ONDO scheduled for release.
• January 18, 2026: Approximately 1,939,613,682 ONDO scheduled for release.
• January 18, 2027: Approximately 1,939,613,682 ONDO scheduled for release.
• January 18, 2028: Approximately 1,939,613,682 ONDO scheduled for release.
• January 18, 2029: A final smaller tranche of approximately 792,052,171 ONDO is scheduled for release.
