A trip is where the real cost of a card stops being theory.
Three layers decide what a foreign purchase costs you: the network's exchange rate, the issuer's fee, and the currency question the terminal asks at the counter.
The MEXC Global Card is MEXC's second Visa card, launched on August 31, 2026. It sits alongside the original MEXC Card, which remains available in selected Asia-Pacific markets, and the MEXC × ether.fi co-branded card.
This guide covers the Global Card only, and the full MEXC Global Card guide has the product overview if you are starting fresh.
What follows takes them in the order a traveler meets them, from packing to the refund that lands a month after you get home.

Key Takeaways
  • MEXC adds no markup to the Visa exchange rate, and Visa's own spread is typically 0.1%–0.3% depending on the currency pair.
  • The only MEXC charge on a purchase is the 1% spending fee, waived until September 30, 2026.
  • Choose the local currency at the terminal, because accepting the US dollar conversion hands the rate to the merchant's payment processor instead of Visa.
  • Cross-border purchases can trigger a one-time verification code that arrives by email and stays valid for four minutes.
  • Hotel and car-rental holds release automatically, usually within 1–3 business days, with no action from you.
  • Airline, hotel and other travel refunds can take up to 30 days, and the card is capped at 80,000 USD per transaction with no cash withdrawals.

Before You Travel: A Five-Point Checklist

Most trip-day card problems are pre-trip problems that nobody caught in time.
  1. Confirm your eligibility is settled. Eligibility follows the country on your proof of address, and your itinerary does not change it, so read MEXC Card supported countries and proof of address first.
  2. Top up in advance. The card spends only what has been topped up, at 1 to 1,000,000 USDT per top-up, no top-up fee, funds arriving within minutes.
  3. Check you can receive email abroad. Verification codes and transaction notifications go to your registered email, so a mailbox you cannot open on a foreign network is a real problem.
  4. Set up your phone wallet before you fly. In-store payment runs through Apple Pay or Google Pay, and adding the MEXC Card to a phone wallet takes minutes at home and far longer at a checkout counter.
  5. Know the ceilings. The Global Card allows 80,000 USD per transaction and 1,000,000 USD per day, and it is virtual only, with no ATM withdrawals and no physical card at present.

What a Purchase in Another Currency Actually Costs

The card is denominated in USD and funded with USDT, so a purchase priced in US dollars involves no conversion at all.
When the purchase currency is something else, Visa converts at its own exchange rate.
That rate already contains Visa's spread, typically 0.1% to 0.3% depending on the pair, and you can look up any pair on Visa's exchange rate calculator.
MEXC adds no markup on top of it, and there is no crypto conversion fee.
The only MEXC charge on a purchase is the 1% spending fee, waived until September 30, 2026.
MEXC's own worked example takes a 100 EUR purchase at an assumed Visa rate of 1.08, or 108 USD, and deducts 109.08 USDT once the standard 1% fee is applied.
One thing surprises people: the authorization amount is an estimate.
The final charge uses the actual Visa rate at settlement, usually 1 to 3 business days later, and if the rate moved, an additional record for the difference may appear.
The merchant can also adjust the final amount at settlement, which is how a tip or service charge appears after the fact, as the MEXC Card Transaction FAQ explains.
For the full picture, including the 1% cross-border fee the MEXC Card (APAC) adds on top of the Visa rate and the Global Card does not, read the MEXC Card fee schedule in full.

At the Terminal: Always Choose the Local Currency

Somewhere on your trip, a card machine will offer to charge you in US dollars instead of local currency.
That offer is called dynamic currency conversion, and it is not the favor it looks like.
Accepting it lets the merchant's processor set the exchange rate instead of Visa, and BEUC's position paper on the practice concluded that consumers end up worse off in practically every case.
An ECRI commentary published by CEPS put it more carefully: case studies generally show paying in your home currency to be the more expensive option.
Paying in the local currency instead keeps the conversion on Visa's side, at Visa's published rate.
Of the three cost layers, dynamic currency conversion is the only one you personally decide, standing at the counter, in about two seconds.
So decide it correctly: local currency, every time.

Hotels, Car Rentals and Other Pre-Authorizations

Check into a hotel and the front desk will usually place a hold on your card before you have spent anything.
A purchase places that hold at authorization, and completes only at settlement, usually within 1 to 3 business days and exceptionally up to 30 days.
If an authorization fails, is reversed by the merchant, or expires, the held amount releases automatically, usually within 1 to 3 business days, with nothing for you to submit.
Because this is a top-up card, your balance has to carry the hold and the final bill at once, so top up for both rather than for the room rate alone.
One caveat: some merchants may require a physical card for certain services, car-rental deposits being the classic case, which is a general merchant practice rather than a MEXC rule.

Flights, Rent and Big-Ticket Purchases

Large travel purchases sit inside the card's published ceilings of 80,000 USD per transaction and 1,000,000 USD per day, with no published annual limit for the Global Card.
What large purchases do trigger is verification.
3-D Secure, or 3DS, may be required for high-risk and cross-border transactions, your first transaction on the card, amounts above the contactless or authentication-free limit, and anywhere local regulation such as the EU's PSD2 requires it.
The one-time code arrives by email, the code email states that it is valid for four minutes, and you should never share it with anyone.
Every successful purchase also produces a notification email showing the amount, the merchant and the card's last four digits, the fastest way to confirm a booking went through.
A restaurant tip or hotel service charge added later lands at settlement, not at the moment you tapped.

Travel Refunds Take Longer

Cancel a flight and the money does not come back at the speed it left.
Refunds generally arrive within 1 to 7 days, but e-commerce, airline, hotel and travel-related refunds can take up to 30 days.
A refund processed before settlement carries no fee.
After settlement the Global Card charges no refund fee either.
Cashback already credited on a refunded or reversed transaction is deducted, so a canceled hotel booking takes its rewards back with it.
If something is genuinely wrong, contact the merchant first, then MEXC Customer Service with your reason and evidence, within 90 days for duplicate charges and 120 days for suspected fraud or goods not received or not as described, counted from the expected or actual delivery date.

If a Payment Is Declined Abroad

Declines happen, and the cause is usually mundane.
  • Insufficient balance on the card.
  • A frozen or restricted card.
  • An unsupported merchant category.
  • Risk-control restrictions.
  • A temporary network or merchant issue.
If the decline appears on the merchant's page with no matching record on your card, it was rejected on the merchant's side, and MEXC cannot see the reason.
Do not tap again and again, because MEXC may charge USD 0.50 per failed transaction once too many pile up, and consecutive failures trigger a risk review that can terminate the card.
Check your balance and card status, pay another way for now, and take it up with the merchant or Customer Service later.

Cashback While You Travel

Cashback runs at 4%, 6% or 10% by VVIP M-Score tier, Standard 350–599, Premier 600–799 and Elite 800+, with monthly caps of 100, 300 and 800 USDT paid in USDT to your Spot Account by the 15th of the following month.
Good news for travelers: hotels, airlines and restaurants are not excluded categories.
The exclusions that catch travelers are the cash-adjacent and official ones.
  • Cash and cash equivalents, covering ATMs and cash advances (6010, 6011) and traveler's checks and money orders (6050).
  • Money transfers (4829 and 6529–6540), including prepaid and gift-card loads (6540).
  • Government payments, covering taxes and customs (9311), fines (9222), government services (9399) and government postal services (9402).
  • Gambling (7800, 7801, 7802, 7995).
The merchant category code is assigned by the network and the acquirer rather than by MEXC, and the full list sits in MEXC's merchant category reference, though MEXC may exclude further codes or individual transactions where abuse is suspected.
Two timing details matter: only settled purchases count, so a booking that settles after month-end counts toward the following month, and your rate for a month is the real VVIP level you hold on its last day.
The tier mechanics and caps are set out in MEXC Card cashback rules and caps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use the MEXC Card abroad?
A: Yes, the Global Card works anywhere Visa is accepted, though the merchant or terminal decides whether a given payment goes through.

Q: Does the MEXC Card charge foreign transaction fees?
A: MEXC adds no markup to the Visa exchange rate and charges no crypto conversion fee, so the only MEXC charge on a purchase is the 1% spending fee.

Q: What exchange rate does the MEXC Card use?
A: Visa's own exchange rate, which typically carries a spread of 0.1% to 0.3% applied by Visa rather than by MEXC.

Q: Should I pay in local currency or in US dollars?
A: Choose the local currency, because paying in US dollars lets the merchant's payment processor set the rate instead of Visa, and that rate is usually worse.

Q: Can I withdraw cash from an ATM with the MEXC Card?
A: No, the Global Card is a virtual card with no ATM withdrawals, and cash and cash-advance merchant categories earn no cashback in any case.

Q: Why is a hotel or car-rental hold still showing on my card?
A: A hold sits on the card from authorization until settlement, usually 1 to 3 business days, and releases automatically once the authorization is reversed or expires.

Q: How long do airline and hotel refunds take on the MEXC Card?
A: Refunds generally arrive within 1 to 7 days, but airline, hotel and other travel-related refunds can take up to 30 days.

Q: Does travelling to a restricted country affect my MEXC Card?
A: Eligibility follows the country on your proof of address rather than your itinerary, and MEXC has not published rules on spending by location.

Q: Do hotel and flight bookings earn cashback?
A: Yes, hotels, airlines and restaurants are not excluded categories, though only settled purchases count toward a given month.

Conclusion

Three decisions really set what a trip costs on this card.
Fund it before you leave, because a top-up card cannot spend what is not on it.
Choose the local currency at every terminal that asks, the one cost layer entirely in your hands.
And expect settlement-day arithmetic rather than authorization-day arithmetic, on charges and on refunds alike.
Get those three right and the card mostly stops being something you think about, which is the point.
Note: Card features, fees, and benefits are subject to change; always check the official MEXC Card page for the latest terms.
