Zo zit XRPL in elkaar 1. Basisstructuur van de XRPL De XRP Ledger is een open-source blockchain die is gelanceerd in 2012 door ontwikkelaars David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb en Arthur Britto.
Hij is ontworpen als een wereldwijd betalings- en afwikkelingsnetwerk, niet als een platform voor mining of pure smart contracts. In de kern bestaat de XRPL uit: Nodes (servers) die de ledger bijhouden. Validators (betrouwbare nodes) die consensus bereiken over transacties. De ledger zelf, een gedeeld grootboek met balansen, rekeningen en orderboeken. 2. Consensusmechanisme (geen mining!) In tegenstelling tot Bitcoin (Proof of Work) of Ethereum (Proof of Stake) gebruikt XRPL het Ripple Protocol Consensus Algorithm (RPCA).
Dit werkt als volgt: Elke validator stelt een lijst samen van andere validators die hij vertrouwt, de Unique Node List (UNL). Transacties zijn voorgesteld en binnen seconden gevalideerd door 80%+ van de nodes in de UNL. Zodra er consensus is, is de transactie onherroepelijk vastgelegd in de ledger. Voordelen: Transacties zijn binnen 3-5 seconden bevestigd. Zeer energie-efficiënt (geen miningcomputers). Hoge doorvoercapaciteit (tot 1.500 transacties per seconde). 3. De rol van XRP XRP is de native token van de ledger.
Het wordt gebruikt om: Transactiekosten te betalen (vaak minder dan 0,0001 XRP). Liquiditeit te verschaffen voor grensoverschrijdende betalingen (bijvoorbeeld via RippleNet). Bridge currency te zijn tussen valuta’s (USD, EUR, JPY, enz.) om snelle conversies te faciliteren. De minimale fee voorkomt spamtransacties en maakt het netwerk stabiel. 4. Functies op protocolniveau XRPL heeft ingebouwde functies die andere blockchains vaak via smart contracts moeten toevoegen: Decentralized Exchange (DEX): ingebouwd orderboek waarmee je valuta’s direct kunt ruilen. Issued Assets: bedrijven kunnen eigen tokens uitgeven (zoals stablecoins of CBDC’s). Escrow & Payment Channels: voor vertragingstransacties of microbetalingen. Multi-signature wallets: voor beveiliging van institutionele accounts. Deze functies zijn geïntegreerd in de kern van het protocol, dus geen gas fees of smart contract-risico’s zoals bij Ethereum. 5. Validator-netwerk en decentralisatie Er draaien wereldwijd honderden independent validators, waaronder universiteiten, exchanges en bedrijven. Ripple Labs beheert minder dan 5% van de validator nodes.
De UNL is door elke node zelf in te stellen, waardoor de controle niet gecentraliseerd is bij Ripple. 6. Innovaties en uitbreidingen De XRPL ontwikkelt zich verder met o.a.: Hooks (lightweight smart contracts). Sidechains (voor DeFi en NFT’s). RLUSD stablecoin (Ripple’s enterprise stablecoin). Integratie met CBDC-projecten wereldwijd.
