Tammy Bruce, President Donald Trump’s deputy U.S. representative to the United Nations, rattled Fox Business’ Stuart Varney on Monday after refusing to comment on whether the president was considering deploying thousands of U.S. troops to Iran.
The ongoing U.S. military siege on Iran – an operation that has expanded into a regional conflict, sent oil prices skyrocketing and reportedly sparked panic within the Trump administration – was going well, Bruce insisted during her appearance on Fox Business’ “Varney & Co.”
“We're in generally good shape, I think,” Bruce told Varney. “The president has every single option available to him. He's a decent man who wants people to have decent lives.”
Bruce went on to say that Trump wanted the operation to be “quick” and “effective,” leading Varney to ask her bluntly whether Trump was considering putting U.S. boots on the ground.
“Are we going to send in special forces, or the 2,500 Marines that we have in the area to go in and grab the 460 kilos of enriched uranium, which the Iranians say they have?” Varney asked, albeit with a misleading claim about Iran’s uranium stockpiles, which experts say are not enriched to levels capable of producing nuclear weapons.
“Well, of course I'm not going to get ahead of the president,” Bruce said.
“You can't answer the question?” Varney asked.
“Here's what I'll remind you [of] and the American people,” Bruce responded. “The president has every single tool in his toolbox, he has every single resource he wants. He is always making decisions based on what's going to get the job done, [and] what is going to protect the American people.”
Varney pressed Bruce on the matter again, asking whether seizing Iran’s uranium would be “the key” to achieving victory in Trump’s Operation Epic Fury.
“That is something the president will decide and will be making the decision on,” Bruce said. “I'm certainly not going to speculate on what that choice will be, because I trust him. He’s transparent, he’s clear and he gets the job done. It’s exactly the right man at the right time.”
