President Donald Trump erupted Tuesday after NATO allies appeared to reject his calls for military assistance in his administration’s war against Iran, declaring in a 235-word rant that the United States no longer needed “the help of anyone.”
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump revealed that he had just “been informed” that “most” of the United States’ NATO allies did not “want to get involved with our military operation.” In response, Trump proclaimed that the historic military alliance established after World War II was no longer needed.
“Because of the fact that we have had such Military Success, we no longer ‘need,’ or desire, the NATO Countries’ assistance – WE NEVER DID!” Trump wrote.
“Likewise, Japan, Australia, or South Korea. In fact, speaking as President of the United States of America, by far the Most Powerful Country Anywhere in the World, WE DO NOT NEED THE HELP OF ANYONE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Trump has reportedly been furious over countries ignoring his pleas for assistance, with Sen. Lindsey Graham revealing, after a conversation he had with Trump earlier on Tuesday, that he had “never heard [Trump] so angry in my life.”
