Gate.io Fees Explained 2026: Every Tier, Every Discount, Every Trap

Gate.io fees are 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker on spot at VIP 0 on its live fee overview page, 0.09% on both sides when fees are paid in GT, 0.020% maker and 0.050% taker on futures, and a flat 0.8% on Alpha trading at every tier.

Key takeaways
  • Gate.io's live fee page lists VIP 0 spot at 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker, retrieved 10 September 2026.
  • Gate's own VIP blog page, last updated 21 April 2026, shows 0.20% instead.
  • Maker and taker cost the same from VIP 0 to VIP 3, so liquidity earns nothing until VIP 4.
  • The GT-paid rate stops beating the standard rate at VIP 10.
  • A 0% maker fee arrives only at VIP 15 of 17 tiers.
  • MEXC publishes 0% maker and 0.050% taker with no tier or token required.

Why does every site quote a different Gate.io fee?

Search for Gate.io fees and you get two answers, 0.1% and 0.2%, often from articles published weeks apart.
That is not sloppy reporting.
Gate publishes its VIP 0 spot rate on three separate official surfaces, and one of them disagrees with the other two.
The fee overview page, which is the schedule that actually bills your order, showed 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker when we checked it on 10 September 2026.
Gate's help centre article on calculating spot trading fees, a page dated 13 December 2024, uses a 0.1% VIP 0 taker rate in its worked example.
Gate's blog post explaining the VIP benefits programme, last updated 21 April 2026, lists VIP 0 spot at 0.20% and steps down through a different ladder entirely.
One comparison site publishes a rate table matching the fee page and a summary sentence matching the blog, on the same page.
The practical rule: treat the fee overview page as the number that bills you, and treat any figure without a retrieval date as unverified.
We apply the same rule to ourselves, and the sourcing standard behind every number on this page is set out in how we verify fee data.

Gate.io Fees by VIP Level: All 17 Tiers, Maker and Taker

Gate runs 17 spot tiers from VIP 0 to VIP 16, each with a standard rate and a lower rate for fees paid in GT.
The same table carries two columns most fee guides never mention: a flat Alpha trading fee and a 24-hour withdrawal limit that moves with your VIP tier rather than your verification level.

Data verified as of 10 September 2026 against Gate's official fee overview page (logged-out global view). Alpha trading is priced at 0.8% at every tier shown.
Three things in that table are worth reading twice.
Makers get no discount for four tiers.
From VIP 0 through VIP 3 the maker and taker rates are identical, so resting an order on the book costs exactly as much as crossing the spread.
The split only opens at VIP 4, and it stays below one basis point all the way to VIP 9.
Paying in GT stops helping at VIP 10.
At VIP 0 the GT-paid rate is 0.09% against a standard 0.1%, a discount of roughly one tenth.
From VIP 10 upward the two columns are the same number, so the token no longer buys a lower rate at the tiers where fees matter most.
Zero maker arrives at VIP 15.
Fifteen tiers of volume or GT holdings separate a new Gate account from the 0% maker fee that zero-fee exchanges publish as a standard rate.

How do you actually reach a lower Gate VIP tier?

Gate assigns your tier on whichever of two tracks is better, 30-day trading volume or your 14-day average GT holding, recalculates it monthly, and weights the volume calculation by product, so a futures desk and a spot trader with the same notional turnover do not land on the same tier.
Gate's fee page sets out the weighting in full.
Spot volume, including convert, counts at 100%, as does stock trading volume.
USDT perpetual, BTC perpetual and USDT delivery futures count at 40%.
USD1 contracts and options each count at 20%, and CFD contracts count at 10%.
Copy-trading spot and futures volume is included in the same totals.
The GT track is measured as the daily average holding of GT, including GT2, across the previous 14 days.
One mechanic catches people out.
GT deduction applies to spot trading fees, and once it is switched on Gate spends your GT first, then falls back to the standard VIP rate the moment the GT balance runs dry.
If you budgeted for 0.09% and the balance empties mid-session, the rest of that session bills at 0.1%.

What are Gate's futures and Alpha trading fees?

Gate's futures page puts the VIP 0 base rate at 0.020% maker and 0.050% taker as of 10 September 2026, while Alpha trading, its on-chain token venue, is charged at a flat 0.8% from VIP 0 to VIP 16, with perpetual funding billed separately from the trading fee.
The 0.8% Alpha rate is the number to sit with for a moment.
It is eight times the VIP 0 spot rate, and it is the one fee on the page that never falls, no matter how much volume or GT you bring.
Gate's fee page FAQ separately documents a points-card rate and lists the options available for pricing futures taker orders, which is a second pricing path rather than a discount on the first.
If derivatives pricing is the reason you are reading this, the cross-platform picture is in our roundup of the lowest futures fees.

What does Gate charge for deposits and withdrawals?

Gate shows a zero deposit fee for every asset listed on the first page of its deposit-and-withdrawal table, prices withdrawals per coin and per network rather than as a percentage, and sets minimums per network across 186 pages of coin and network combinations on the logged-out view retrieved 10 September 2026.
Three examples from the first page give the shape of it.
USDT on Ethereum ERC20 takes a minimum deposit of 0.01 USDT and a minimum withdrawal of 1 USDT.
BTC on Bitcoin takes a minimum deposit of 0.000006 BTC and a minimum withdrawal of 0.0005 BTC.
ETH on Ethereum takes a minimum deposit of 0.000006 ETH and a minimum withdrawal of 0.002 ETH.
The same table carries a network-status field, and some networks were flagged deposit-disabled at the time of checking.
Checking that field before you send is the difference between a five-minute transfer and a support ticket.
Withdrawal pricing is where the largest avoidable losses usually sit, because the same asset can cost wildly different amounts depending on the chain you pick, as we measured across USDT withdrawal routes.

What does a Gate fee tier cost you per year?

At VIP 0, 500,000 USD of monthly taker volume costs 500 USD in spot fees, or 450 USD with GT deduction enabled, against 250 USD at MEXC's standard 0.050% taker rate and 200 USD with the MX deduction, which annualises to 6,000 USD against 3,000 USD.

The maker row is the one that changes decisions.
A trader who works limit orders pays the full 500 USD a month at Gate VIP 0 and nothing at all on MEXC's standard schedule, because Gate does not price makers below takers until VIP 4.

What does MEXC charge instead?

MEXC's standard spot schedule is 0% maker and 0.050% taker, falling to 0.040% taker with the MX deduction's flat 20% discount, with futures published as 0% to 0.040% maker and 0% to 0.100% taker across contracts, and no tier, volume threshold or token holding required to get the standard rate.
Futures pricing is set per contract rather than by one headline number.
BTCUSDT runs at 0% maker and 0.020% taker, ETHUSDT at 0% and 0.010%, a standard-tier pair such as ZECUSDT at 0.010% and 0.040%, and some pairs carry a zero-fee tag on both sides.
The difference is structural rather than promotional.
Gate's model asks you to earn a lower rate by supplying volume or holding GT, and prices the first four tiers as though liquidity provision has no value.
MEXC's model sets the maker rate at zero on day one and keeps the taker rate at half of Gate's VIP 0 rate.
For a maker-heavy trader that is not a marginal saving.
On 500,000 USD of monthly maker volume it is the entire fee bill, 6,000 USD a year, and reaching the equivalent rate on Gate means climbing to VIP 15.
One trade-off runs the other way.
Gate's ladder rewards genuinely high turnover in a way a flat schedule cannot, and a desk trading spot and stocks climbs on the full value of its turnover, while futures volume counts at 40%.
A trader clearing hundreds of millions in monthly volume will reach tiers that price below any standard retail rate.
Most readers of this page are not that trader.

Which pricing model fits which trader?

Gate's tiered model suits high-turnover accounts and GT holders who will realistically climb past VIP 10, while MEXC's flat model suits maker-heavy traders, smaller accounts and anyone who wants the rate they will pay published before they open an account.
Neither answer moves with market conditions, because both are structural.
Pick Gate's model if you already clear enough monthly volume to sit in the upper tiers, if you hold GT for other reasons, or if you specifically want its stock, options and CFD markets in the same account.
Pick a flat schedule if you work limit orders, if your monthly volume sits below the first meaningful tier break, or if you would rather not hold an exchange token to get a discount.
For the wider field on listings, availability and product range rather than fees alone, see our review of Gate alternatives.

The MEXC View

We publish this on an exchange that competes with Gate for the same traders, so read the comparison rows with that in mind and check both fee pages yourself.
Two things about Gate's fee page deserve credit.
It publishes all 17 tiers to logged-out visitors, which more platforms should do, and it spells out the product weightings behind the volume calculation instead of hiding them behind a support ticket.
Gate's fee table is readable without an account, which not every platform we have checked can say, as our survey of how twelve exchanges publish their fees found.
The criticism we would make is narrower.
Gate's blog page, last updated 21 April 2026, shows a VIP 0 rate that conflicts with the fee page, and a reader who lands on the blog first will price a trade at twice the rate the fee page charges.
"When your own blog and your own fee page disagree by a factor of two, the reader has no way to price a trade before placing it," says Sarah Chen, who compiled the fee tables on this page.

Availability and regional notes

Fee levels are only useful if the platform is available to you, and availability differs by region for both platforms discussed here.
Readers in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom should treat this page as pricing information only and use a platform authorised in their own jurisdiction.
MEXC does not serve users in the United States, and readers there should use a platform registered with the relevant United States authorities.
MEXC announced its exit from the Netherlands on 25 August 2026, with an offboarding deadline of 31 October 2026 and final offboarding on 16 November 2026.

Gate.io fees: frequently asked questions

What are Gate.io's fees?
Gate's fee overview page lists 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker on spot at VIP 0, retrieved 10 September 2026.
Futures start at 0.020% maker and 0.050% taker.

Is Gate's spot fee 0.1% or 0.2%?
The live fee overview page says 0.1% at VIP 0.
The 0.2% figure comes from Gate's own VIP blog post, last updated 21 April 2026, which conflicts with the fee page.

How do I lower my Gate.io fees?
Climb the VIP ladder through 30-day volume or a 14-day average GT holding, whichever assigns the higher tier.
Enabling GT deduction cuts the VIP 0 spot rate to 0.09%.

Does Gate.io charge deposit fees?
The deposit-fee column reads zero for every asset on the first page of Gate's deposit-and-withdrawal table.
You still pay the network fee to send the deposit.

How much are Gate.io withdrawal fees?
Withdrawal fees are set per coin and per network, not as a percentage, and are published on the fee page.
Minimum withdrawals include 1 USDT on ERC20 and 0.0005 BTC on Bitcoin.

Do I need GT to get Gate's lower fees?
No, volume alone can raise your tier.
GT deduction saves about one tenth at VIP 0, and stops beating the standard rate from VIP 10 upward.

What is Gate's Alpha trading fee?
Alpha trading is charged at a flat 0.8% at every VIP level from 0 to 16.
It is the one rate on Gate's fee table that volume and GT holdings do not reduce.

Is Gate.io cheaper than MEXC?
On published standard rates, no.
MEXC lists 0% maker and 0.050% taker with no tier required, against Gate's 0.1% on both sides at VIP 0.

What is Gate's 24-hour withdrawal limit?
Gate's fee page sets it by VIP tier, from 3,000,000 USD at VIP 0 up to 50,000,000 USD at VIP 16.
Your own limit appears on the withdrawal page once you select a coin and network.
