XRP Positioned to Lead DeFi’s Next Wave as TradFi Replacement Gains Momentum 

The conversation around decentralized finance (DeFi) replacing traditional finance (TradFi) continues to heat up.

XRP Ledger dUNL validator Vet notes that while the momentum is real, “classic DeFi” still has significant ground to cover before it can match the scale, resilience, and liquidity of established global financial systems. In his view, the shift is evolutionary, not a quick replacement. 

Vet argues that XRP is well positioned to drive the next phase of DeFi because of how the XRP Ledger was built from the ground up. 

He acknowledges its focus on reliability, consistency, and predictable performance, traits that matter more in high-value financial systems than experimental yield models or fast-moving design changes. 

In contrast to ecosystems chasing high returns, he suggests XRP takes a more deliberate approach, prioritizing long-term structural resilience over short-term innovation cycles. 

These design choices come with clear trade-offs. XRP may not always capture the same speculative momentum or yield-focused activity seen in other DeFi ecosystems, but that’s by design. 

Vet points out that infrastructure built for institutional finance prioritizes stability, efficient settlement, and enduring trust over short-term incentive cycles. 

XRP’s Cross-Chain Expansion Signals a Shift Toward Institutional-Grade DeFi Utility 

Vet’s view reflects a wider shift in the XRP ecosystem, where the asset is moving beyond its original role as a payment bridge into productive collateral within decentralized finance. 

Evernorth CEO Asheesh Birla has noted this progression, highlighting XRP’s growing utility in DeFi systems where it is increasingly being used for active financial functions, not just liquidity transfer. 

Cross-chain development is also steadily expanding XRP’s reach. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently stressed XRP’s rising demand following the launch of wrapped XRP (wXRP) on Solana, enabled through integrations with Hex Trust and LayerZero. 

This development extends XRP into broader DeFi ecosystems, improving interoperability and allowing it to function across networks that were previously siloed.

Therefore, these moves point to a gradual but intentional repositioning of XRP in the digital asset space. Instead of competing on hype cycles or yield incentives, the XRP Ledger is leaning into infrastructure-level utility, supporting reliable, high-value financial activity while widening access through cross-chain connectivity.

If the Vet’s assessment sees the light of day, the next phase of DeFi may be defined less by speculation and more by reliability at scale. In that environment, XRP’s conservative design choices could prove less of a limitation, and more of a long-term advantage.
