MANILA, Philippines – Originally established as an exclusive social club in 1898, Club Filipino has over the years hosted some of the Philippines’ most historically significant events.
One of these is Corazon Aquino’s inauguration as the country’s first female president on February 25, 1986, marking the end of Ferdinand Marcos’ dictatorship. Twenty-three years later, in 2009, Aquino’s son Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III announced his own presidential bid in the same venue.
Rappler’s Juno Reyes revisits the site 40 years later, at a time when another Marcos again holds the country’s highest office.
