MANILA, Philippines – The first session of Day 3 of the International Criminal Court pre-trial hearing saw lead defense counsel Nicholas Kauffman present key arguments challenging the charges against former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Rappler senior investigative reporter Lian Buan reported on Thursday, February 26, that Kaufman focused on two main points so far: the contextual elements of the alleged crimes and the prosecution’s claim regarding Duterte’s mode of criminal liability.
The defense’s presentation comes amid extensive evidence from the prosecution, including public statements and official documents, which the court will weigh to determine whether a trial can proceed.
