Coinbase draws AML focus amid Sokolovski bail denial

No verified $100M Coinbase laundering admission reported

There is no verified public record or official government statement confirming that an American man admitted to laundering nearly $100 million through Coinbase-linked transactions. The available information remains uncorroborated and should be treated as unverified.

The circulating claim alleges crypto assets moved through platforms such as Coinbase. At this time, no court filing or agency press release substantiates that specific admission or the $100 million figure.

Why this matters for crypto money laundering oversight

Unverified allegations can distort public understanding of crypto money laundering risks and controls. Oversight centers on identity verification, transaction monitoring, and timely suspicious activity reporting across exchange on- and off-ramps.

When claims are inaccurate or conflated, they can obscure how Coinbase anti-money laundering controls and similar programs are assessed, and how regulators evaluate remediation and governance over alerts.

Immediate impact for readers and DOJ enforcement context

For readers, the immediate takeaway is caution: allegations are not findings. At the time of this writing, Coinbase Global, Inc. (COIN) closed at 171.35 USD and traded at 171.05 USD after-hours, based on data from Nasdaq.

In enforcement terms, the U.S. Department of Justice continues to pursue complex, cross-border crypto money laundering investigations, and outcomes can include charges and extradition where appropriate.

Confirmed related cases and NYDFS regulatory context

Bail for Canadian defendant Rolan Sokolovski was denied and he has been described as a chief money launderer for alleged drug kingpin Ryan Wedding, according to CBC, while The Globe and Mail reported he sought release ahead of an extradition hearing. The hearing will determine whether he is extradited to the United States. These are parallel proceedings and not confirmations of the unverified $100 million Coinbase allegation.

Coinbase anti-money laundering: 2023 settlement with New York State Department of Financial Services

In January 2023, Coinbase reached a $100 million settlement over anti-money laundering program deficiencies, as reported by Forbes. “Failed to build and maintain a functional compliance program that could keep pace with its growth,” said the New York State Department of Financial Services.

Today’s NYT Pips Hints And Solutions For Thursday, September 18th

The post Today’s NYT Pips Hints And Solutions For Thursday, September 18th appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. It’s Thursday and I am incredibly sore and tired after really hitting the weights and the yoga mat hard this week. Sore is good! It takes pain to reduce pain, or at least that’s my experience with exercise. We must exercise our minds as well, and what better way to do that than with a fun puzzle game about placing dominoes in the correct tiles. Come along, my Pipsqueaks, let’s solve today’s Pips! Looking for Wednesday’s Pips? Read our guide right here. How To Play Pips In Pips, you have a grid of multicolored boxes. Each colored area represents a different “condition” that you have to achieve. You have a select number of dominoes that you have to spend filling in the grid. You must use every domino and achieve every condition properly to win. There are Easy, Medium and Difficult tiers. Here’s an example of a difficult tier Pips: Pips example Screenshot: Erik Kain As you can see, the grid has a bunch of symbols and numbers with each color. On the far left, the three purple squares must not equal one another (hence the equal sign crossed out). The two pink squares next to that must equal a total of 0. The zig-zagging blue squares all must equal one another. You click on dominoes to rotate them, and will need to since they have to be rotated to fit where they belong. Not shown on this grid are other conditions, such as “less than” or “greater than.” If there are multiple tiles with > or < signs, the total of those tiles must be greater or less than the listed number. It varies by grid. Blank spaces can have anything. The various possible conditions are: = All pips must equal one another in this group. ≠ All pips…
