ether.fi requires all 12 node operators to adopt mump2p as Optimum software goes live on Ethereum mainnet
According to Odaily Planet Daily, Optimum’s block propagation software mump2p has officially gone live on Ethereum mainnet. ether.fi had previously made the software optional but now requires all 12 of its node operators to adopt it. A total of 16 node operators currently run mump2p in production, collectively managing around 22,000 validator keys and more than 1.4 million staked ETH, representing over 3% of all staked ETH. mump2p operates as a sidecar gateway layered on top of libp2p rather than replacing Ethereum’s default GossipSub system, and uses random linear network coding. Optimum said block arrival speeds are 2.42 times faster than GossipSub, while arrival-time variance is reduced by around 7.88 times.
Kalshi and Polymarket reach combined July trading volume of $53 billion as U.S. midterm elections approach
According to Decrypt, prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket are continuing to scale ahead of the U.S. midterm elections in November, with combined monthly trading volume reaching $53 billion in July, more than double the $26 billion recorded in May. Trading remains concentrated mainly in sports markets. Political trading accounts for a relatively small share, with Polymarket averaging around $2 billion per month this year and Kalshi less than $300 million. By July, trading volume tied to control of the U.S. House and Senate had exceeded $30 million. The CFTC withdrew an earlier proposal in February that would have classified election contracts as gambling and released a structured event-contract framework proposal in June.
Bitwise and Hyperliquid urge SEC to revise crypto rules, focusing on token classification, airdrops, and secondary-market trading
According to Cointelegraph, Bitwise Asset Management and the Hyperliquid Policy Center submitted comment letters to the U.S. SEC calling for revisions to the proposed Regulation Crypto Assets framework and greater clarity around token classification, airdrops, and secondary-market trading. Bitwise asked the SEC to clarify the standards investment managers should use to determine whether a token falls under securities law. The Hyperliquid Policy Center called for a broader safe harbor and clearer treatment of network-reward airdrops, token buybacks, unregistered intermediaries facilitating trades, and the ability of tokens to trade freely through on-chain protocols. The SEC will decide whether to revise, adopt, or withdraw the proposal after the public comment period.
Analyst: 82 crypto projects have shut down in 2026
According to Cointelegraph, crypto researcher Stacy Muur identified 82 digital asset projects and protocols that reportedly shut down in 2026, spanning DeFi, blockchain infrastructure, and Web3 gaming. Key factors included falling revenue, exhausted funding, and security incidents. DeFiLlama research published in August found that 100 crypto projects had announced shutdowns in 2026, including 40 within the previous 90 days. The most common reason was lack of product-market fit, followed by depleted funding, insufficient revenue, and strategic pivots. The projects had collectively raised around $1 billion while generating only approximately $250 million in fees, highlighting a significant gap between capital raised and sustainable revenue.
Nectar Group raises $5 million seed round led by Portal Ventures
According to Odaily Planet Daily, Nectar Group has completed a $5 million seed round led by Portal Ventures, with participation from Peer Venture Partners, Anchorage Digital Ventures, an unnamed family office, and angel investors. Nectar Group is the developer of Bitcoin yield platform HoneyB, which enables Bitcoin holders to use BTC holdings as collateral to borrow stablecoins and allocate the proceeds across yield strategies involving U.S. Treasuries, fixed income, credit, gold, volatility, and options. The financing will support further development of infrastructure connecting Bitcoin-backed borrowing with traditional yield-producing assets.
NEAR governance proposal HSP-029 enters voting, seeking to cut maximum annual issuance rate to 1.6%
According to Odaily Planet Daily, NEAR ecosystem governance proposal HSP-029 has entered the voting stage and proposes gradually reducing NEAR’s maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months while maintaining the 90/10 allocation between stakers and the treasury. The reduction would proceed linearly at approximately 3.75 basis points per epoch, followed by a 90-day grace period if approved. The proposal estimates that issuance would be reduced by around 11.8 million NEAR over two years and by approximately 66.1 million NEAR over six years, equivalent to a 4.36% reduction in supply relative to the current trajectory. Staking APY is projected to decline from 5.268% to 3.372%.
tx launches U.S. dollar stablecoin USTX for tokenized asset trading
According to Cointelegraph, real-world asset platform tx has launched the U.S. dollar stablecoin USTX for use in its wallet and planned tokenized stock market. Users can mint USTX using USDC from eight blockchains and redeem it back into USDC, with supported networks including Ethereum, Solana, and Base. Fintech platform Brale is responsible for issuing USTX, managing reserves, and handling minting and redemption. tx said USTX is not a wrapped representation of USDC but uses an independent 1:1 reserve structure. Each USTX is backed by $1 in assets, including cash, bank deposits, government money market funds, and short-term U.S. Treasuries.
Mural raises $15 million Series A led by Tether
According to Odaily Planet Daily, payments company Mural has completed a $15 million Series A funding round led by Tether, with participation from North Island Ventures, bringing total funding to $28 million. Mural was co-founded in 2022 by former Palantir engineers Sinclair Toffa and Chris Fernandes and primarily provides payment services for businesses. The financing reflects continued investor interest in stablecoin and digital payment infrastructure as enterprise cross-border transfers, on-chain settlement, and stablecoin payment use cases expand. Related service providers are accelerating development of payment and treasury-management infrastructure for business customers.
Circle reports $1.4 billion in H1 revenue, with net profit margin of approximately 7%
According to Bitcoin.com News, Circle generated approximately $1.4 billion in revenue during the first half of 2026. Around $819 million, or 59%, was used for payments to USDC distribution partners and transaction-related costs, while another $473 million, or about 34%, went toward licensing, banking partnerships, liquidity, compliance, and other expenses. CertiK disclosed that a legacy MakerDAO auction-keeper contract on Ethereum mainnet was recently exploited. The attacker used an unauthenticated function to obtain full delegation permissions over the keeper’s MakerDAO Vat account and, in a single transaction, settled four legacy 50 ETH auction positions dating back to the 2020 “Black Thursday” period, ultimately transferring 200 ETH worth approximately $542,982 at the time of the incident. The case shows that old contracts, bot accounts, or historical permissions may continue to expose exploitable assets and privileges even after they have left active use. Users and project teams should regularly revoke outdated approvals, clear residual balances from legacy contracts and abandoned automation accounts, and confirm that assets and permissions in retired components have been revoked or migrated after protocol upgrades or migrations.
