P2P Risk Awareness: Fake Escrow Scams and How to Reduce Your Risk

1. What is Escrow Scam?

Scammer may send fake receipts or screenshots to pretend that payment has been made, or claims that the escrow system will only show the payment after victim releases your crypto.

2. Common Fake Escrow Scams Scenarios

The victim seller may receive a fake or edited screenshot that appears to be proof of payment. The scammer buyer may also claim that a so-called "special escrow account" or "third-party escrow system" exists, promising that the payment will be credited afterward and that the transaction will be confirmed only after the victim releases the crypto. However, when the victim checks their bank account or wallet, no funds have actually been received.

3. How to protect yourself from Fake Term Scams

✔ MEXC does not use third-party or external escrow systems
✔ Never release crypto unless funds are confirmed in your own bank account or e-wallet
✔ Ignore any claims about "special escrow" or "delayed escrow confirmation"
✔ Ignore pressure or aggressive messages that try to force you to release your crypto.
✔ If anything feels suspicious or you cannot reach an agreement, stop the transaction and contact our Customer Support team immediately.
