For one group of users the answer is a court record.
In January 2025 the company that operates KuCoin pleaded guilty to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, agreed to pay more than $297 million and agreed to exit the US market for at least two years, according to the US Department of Justice.
On March 30, 2026 the CFTC announced a consent order that bars the operator from letting US participants access KuCoin unless it registers as a foreign board of trade, with a $500,000 civil penalty.

None of this is a solvency story, and it should not be read as one.
For everyone else, the reason is usually cost.
KuCoin's fee page lists VIP 0 spot fees at 0.1% for Class A tokens, 0.2% for Class B and 0.3% for Class C, with makers and takers paying the same, and futures at 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker, as of September 10, 2026.
The large coins sit in Class A.
Many of the smaller tokens that draw people to KuCoin sit in the other two, and that is where the cost of staying adds up.

This is the KuCoin detail that catches people on moving day.
KuCoin describes the trading password as a six-digit code that you set yourself, used to verify withdrawals, trades and API actions.
People who only hold coins can go months without typing it.
If you have forgotten it, KuCoin's help center says a reset request is reviewed in 1 to 3 business days.
Once the trading password has changed, KuCoin closes withdrawals and P2P selling for 24 hours.
So check that you know the code before you plan anything for a specific day.
Seven changes that suspend KuCoin withdrawals for 24 hours
KuCoin's withdrawal restrictions article, last updated December 6, 2025, lists the following triggers.
- Deleting a passkey
- A change in Google 2FA
- A change in the trading password
- Changing or unlinking the phone number
- Unfreezing the account
- Changing or unlinking the email
- Resetting the login password through the Forget password link
The restriction lifts on its own after 24 hours.

A Class C trader at that volume pays $600 a year more than the same trades would cost on MEXC's standard schedule.
Futures tell a similar story: $200,000 a month in BTCUSDT perpetual taker volume costs $1,440 a year at KuCoin's 0.06% and $480 at MEXC's 0.020%.
Now the limits.
KuCoin discounts fees by 20% when you pay them in KCS, and its VIP tiers lower rates further, so check your own tier before you compare.
MEXC futures rates are pair-specific, with standard-tier pairs at 0.010% for makers and 0.040% for takers.
Orders sent through the MEXC API follow a separate futures schedule of 0.06% maker and 0.08% taker, which is no cheaper than KuCoin's VIP 0 futures rates.

On reserves, MEXC publishes Proof of Reserves with Merkle tree verification, so any user can check that their own balance is included.

What Does KuCoin Charge to Move Crypto Out?
KuCoin charges a withdrawal fee that depends on the coin and the network, and the form shows the fee and the final amount you will receive before you confirm.
The KuCoin transfer fee for an internal transfer is zero, and the funds arrive immediately.
An internal transfer only reaches another KuCoin account, though, and it generates no transaction ID.
KuCoin selects internal transfer automatically when it recognises the address as one of its own, which does not apply when you are sending to a different exchange.
KuCoin publishes its per-coin fees in a table that ran to 121 pages when we checked it on September 10, 2026.
On the first page of that table, all ten minimum withdrawal amounts were exactly twice the fee, so a small balance can sit below the minimum even when it covers the fee.
We do not reprint the table, because per-coin fees are revised and the live figure in the form is the only one that applies to you.

Which Network Should You Pick?
Pick from the overlap, not from the price list.
Write down the networks the destination accepts for your coin, write down the networks KuCoin offers, and cross out everything that is not on both.
Then take the cheapest of what remains.
MEXC, for instance, has supported USDT on the Toncoin network since April 2024, alongside Tron, Ethereum, BNB Chain and Solana.
Smaller tokens are where this matters most for a KuCoin user.
A token that trades on both platforms may still be issued on different chains, and MEXC does not credit a deposit when the token's contract address differs from the one it supports.
Compare the contract address on the MEXC deposit page with the one on KuCoin's withdrawal form before you send anything that is not a major coin.
Coins that use a memo or tag need it copied exactly, and addresses beginning with 0x look identical across Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon and other EVM chains.

How to Transfer Crypto From KuCoin to Another Exchange in Six Steps
Step 1: Confirm you know the trading password.
If you do not, start the reset now and come back when the review and the 24-hour suspension have passed.
Step 2: Clear open orders and gather the balance.
Cancel or close open orders in the spot, margin, futures and lending markets, and move what you are sending into the Funding Account.
Step 3: Get the deposit address from your destination.
On MEXC, go to Wallets, then Deposit, then On-Chain Deposit, choose the coin and the network, and copy the address, as set out in MEXC's guide on how to deposit crypto on the web.
Step 4: Withdraw from KuCoin to the other exchange.
Go to Assets, then Overview, then Withdraw, select the coin, enter the address, choose the network and the amount, and pick the Funding or Trading Account as the source.
Read the fee and the amount you will receive before you continue.
Step 5: Send a small test, then confirm the full amount.
Wait for the test to credit on the other side before you move the rest.
KuCoin asks for security verification on each request, which is where the trading password and your 2FA codes come in.
Step 6: Track it to the end.
KuCoin's withdrawal status article says a pending request is generally processed within 30 minutes and that processing can take 2 to 3 hours, per the article retrieved September 10, 2026.
Once a transaction ID appears, follow it on a block explorer, and if the chain shows success the receiving platform is the one to ask.
What Happens on the Receiving Side?
The receiving exchange turns a confirmed transaction into a balance, and it has its own rules for doing so.
On MEXC, Bitcoin deposits credit after 2 block confirmations, Ethereum after 10, and USDT on ERC-20 after 96 network confirmations, according to the MEXC deposit and withdrawal guide.
You can follow a deposit under Wallets, then Funding History, then Deposit, where the TxID links to the block explorer.
For a KuCoin user moving altcoins, three entries in MEXC's support guide matter most.
A token whose contract address does not match the one MEXC supports is not credited.
A token that MEXC has delisted is not credited either, and the guide sends you to Customer Service.
A deposit sent on the wrong network, or without a required memo, goes through the Uncredited Deposit Return Application, which MEXC typically reviews in 1 to 2 business days.

Five Ways a KuCoin Transfer Fails, and How to Stop Each One
You cannot remember the trading password.
Start the reset early, because the review and the suspension together can take several days.
The withdrawal page shows a countdown.
One of the seven security changes started a 24-hour suspension, and it ends on its own.
The page shows User Forbidden.
KuCoin says withdrawals have been suspended on the account and directs you to a ticket or the online chat.
The balance is there but cannot be withdrawn.
Look for open orders in the spot, margin, futures or lending markets, and check that the funds are in the Funding Account.
Someone offers to speed things up.
The FBI has warned about scammers who impersonate cryptocurrency exchange employees and ask for log-in details.
No support agent needs your trading password, and anyone who asks for it is not support.
Do You Owe Tax When You Move Crypto Between Exchanges?
In the United Kingdom, HMRC's manual states that there is no disposal when you keep beneficial ownership, as when you move tokens between addresses you control.
Rules differ elsewhere, and this is not tax advice.
What matters in practice is the paper trail.
KuCoin's help center offers a self-service Export History tool, and the time to use it is before you empty the account.
Save the withdrawal transaction IDs with the export, since they tie the old records to the new ones.
Can You Do This From Your Country?
United States.
KuCoin's operator is barred from serving US participants unless it registers with the CFTC, and MEXC's User Agreement lists the United States as a prohibited jurisdiction.
US residents should withdraw to a platform registered with FinCEN and licensed in their state.
European Economic Area.
Austria's Financial Market Authority authorised KuCoin EU on November 27, 2025, restricted new business in February 2026, and lifted that restriction on May 18, 2026 while still not permitting it to commence operations, per FMA notices retrieved September 10, 2026.
MEXC does not hold a MiCA authorisation and appears on ESMA's register of non-compliant entities following a decision by the Dutch AFM in September 2025.
MEXC is also leaving the Netherlands, with offboarding running to October 31, 2026 and final offboarding on November 16, 2026.
EEA readers should check the ESMA register and use an authorised provider.
United Kingdom.
MEXC's User Agreement lists the United Kingdom as a prohibited jurisdiction, so UK readers should look to firms authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Japan.
Japan does not appear among the prohibited jurisdictions in MEXC's User Agreement, but the MEXC apps cannot be downloaded from Japanese iOS or Android stores, per MEXC's own restricted regions article.
MEXC appears on the Financial Services Agency's list of unregistered operators, with entries in March 2023 and November 2024.
If supervision under Japanese law matters to you, an FSA-registered domestic exchange is the appropriate destination.
